CURRIED CRAB DIP

You can put together this modern version of this classic appetizer in minutes.

1 lb lump crabmeat (shells and cartilage picked out)
6 tbsp mayonnaise
1½ tsp curry powder
2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
¼ tsp salt
3 tbsp sliced scallions (white and green parts)
Granny Smith apple (sliced)
Crackers
Cherry tomatoes

Steps:

  • In a bowl, combine the crabmeat, mayonnaise, curry powder, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, salt and 2 tbsp scallions. Stir gently to combine.
  • Transfer dip to a bowl and arrange on a platter surrounded by apple slices, crackers and tomatoes. Top with 1 tbsp scallions. Serve immediately or chill, covered, until read to serve.

My mom's good friend Mrs. Barbara would always make this delicious crab dip for holidays and gatherings. She passed away over 15 years ago and I didn't think my mom had gotten the recipe from her before she died, but I found out this weekend that she had!! Can't wait to make this and remember all the good times we had with such a great lady.

2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
2/3 cup mayonnaise
3 tablespoons white vinegar
3 tablespoons sugar
3 tablespoons onions, grated
1 teaspoon curry powder
1 teaspoon horseradish
1 teaspoon garlic, minced
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 lbs lump crabmeat

Steps:

  • If you didn't pick the crab meat out of the crab yourself then I'd recommend going through it and picking out shells -- there are always a ton in the prepackaged stuff.
  • Combine all ingredients thoroughly and chill for at least 2 hours.
  • Serve with your favorite crackers, crusty bread, bagel chips, pita chips, etc.
