Time 1h20m

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 pounds lean ground beef
2 large yellow onions, chopped
3 cloves garlic, chopped
3 cups water
2 (15 ounce) cans tomato sauce
2 (14.5 ounce) cans diced tomatoes
3 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons dried Italian herb seasoning
3 bay leaves
1 tablespoon seasoned salt, or to taste
2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni

Steps:

  • Cook and stir the ground beef in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat, breaking the meat up as it cooks, until the meat is no longer pink and has started to brown, about 10 minutes. Skim off excess fat, and stir in the onions and garlic. Cook and stir the meat mixture until the onions are translucent, about 10 more minutes.
  • Stir water, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, soy sauce, Italian seasoning, bay leaves, and seasoned salt into the meat mixture and bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Stir macaroni into the mixture, cover, and simmer over low heat until the pasta is tender, about 25 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat, discard bay leaves, and serve.

MISSOURI GOULASH

Missouri Goulash image

My older sister brought this recipe home from her Mother-in-law 50+years ago. It's especially appropriate in these current hard times, extending a pound of hamburger into several servings. It's a one pot wonder, although I usually add crescent rolls or biscuits to round it out. This is a go to meal, I use lots during harvest, and like any good goulash is better the next day.

Categories     Beef

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 cup(s) elbow macaroni, cooked (dreamfields is great)
1 pound(s) hamburger (i always cook it with onion and drain)
1 - medium onion
2 can(s) cut green beans (drained)
1 can(s) cream of mushroom soup, undiluted

Steps:

  • Cook macaroni according to package directions. Drain
  • While macaroni is cooking, brown burger with chopped onion. Drain
  • In the pot you cooked the macaroni in combine all the ingredients, stir until well mixed. Serve.
  • Optional: you can dress this up and add some shredded cheese. You can increase any or all the ingredients. It heats up well in the microwave. You can even serve it out of the crockpot, but you may need to add more liquid for that.
