A Rhode Island exclusive. Kind of like a Sloppy Joe but far superior. Spicy enough to earn it's name, it's best washed down with a good beer. For you non Rhodey people, torpedo rolls are just the long sandwich rolls.

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 pounds ground beef
2 green bell peppers, seeded and diced
1 (1/4 inch x 3 inch) strip red bell pepper, seeded and diced
1 medium yellow onion, chopped
1 medium red onion, chopped
2 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste
1 ½ cups water
1 teaspoon red pepper flakes, or to taste
8 torpedo rolls, split

Steps:

  • Place the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the green pepper, red pepper, yellow onion and red onion to the skillet, and cook until meat is evenly browned and vegetables are tender. Drain excess grease from the pan.
  • Transfer the mixture to a slow cooker, and stir in tomato paste, water and red pepper flakes. Cover, and cook at the Low setting for at least 4 hours. I usually let it go for 12. The longer it simmers, the spicier it gets! Spoon into torpedo rolls and serve.

Number Of Ingredients 16

2 lb ground beef
2 26 ounce canned or jarred sauce (i use ragu)
1 can(s) (12 ounce) tomato paste
2 lb green bell peppers, cut into 1" strips
2 lb red bell peppers, cut into 1" strips
2 large onions, cut into 1
salt and pepper to taste
1 to 2 c water (i use as needed)
1/4 c sugar
2 Tbsp garlic powder
2 Tbsp onion powder
1 Tbsp basil
1 Tbsp italian seasoning
1 tsp cayenne pepper (more or less for your taste)
1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (more or less for your taste)
2 pkg sub rolls (or your favorite rolls)

Steps:

  • 1. In large dutch oven, cook ground beef until browned,over medium-high heat. Salt and pepper meat to taste. Drain.
  • 2. Add cooked beef to dutch oven and add all remaining ingredients (add water as needed). Cover and simmer for up to 4 hours.
  • 3. Serve hot on your favorite sub roll with a side of potato chips, or macaroni or potato salad!

DYNAMITE SAUCE

This is a spicy creamy sauce used in or atop many sushi bar favorites such as Dynamite. This also works as a great dipping sauce.

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, stir together the mayonnaise, sugar and chili garilc sauce. Use immediately or refrigerate and use within one week.

Whenever we had a family get-together and my mom had a lot of people to feed, she'd make her delicious dynamite sandwiches. I am from Woonsocket, Rhode Island, and this is a staple in this area. 2-1/2 pounds ground beef
5 medium green peppers, finely chopped
4 large onions, chopped (6 cups)
1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes in puree
1 can (16 ounces) tomato sauce
1 can (12 ounces) tomato paste
1 cup water
2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons garlic powder
1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
1 tablespoon dried oregano
2-1/4 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons hot pepper sauce
1-1/2 teaspoons pepper
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes, optional
16 hoagie buns or other sandwich rolls, split

Steps:

  • In a Dutch oven, cook beef over medium-high heat 8-10 minutes or until no longer pink, breaking into crumbles; drain., Stir in all remaining ingredients except buns. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, 1 hour or until desired consistency and flavors are blended, stirring occasionally. Serve on buns.

Steps:

  • Brown ground beef in olive oil. Chop all vegetables to medium-size. Mix tomatoes and tomato' paste with 2 cans water in large pot, add all spices at this time. Start heating over low flame and add browned beef and vegetables. When boiling well, turn down and simmer at least 6 hours. If you want it very thick, simmer 12 hours over low flame. It can serve a large crowd over rice, spaghetti, macaroni or on toast or it can be frozen in 2 cup containers and used any time. When mushrooms are in season, they are a delightful addition.

2 (8 ounce) cans Hunts tomato sauce
0.5 (6 ounce) can italian tomato paste
1 lb hamburger

Steps:

  • Dice peppers and onions.
  • Put in pot then add hamburger, tomato sauce, salt and pepper to taste.
  • Cook until peppers and onion are done to your liking.
  • Then add the paste.
  • Put on torpedo rolls.
