Magnolia Bakery's Chocolate Drop Cookies image

From the famous Magnolia Bakery in New York City. I substituted Almond Roca (a US Pacific Northwest creation!) for the Heath bars.

Time 27m

Yield 3 dozen

Number Of Ingredients 13

2 1/4 cups unbleached flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/3 cups unsalted butter, softened
2/3 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1 cup sugar
2 large eggs, at room temperature
3 tablespoons milk
1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups pecans, chopped (or hazelnuts)
1 cup almonds, roca brand candy minced small (or 1 cup Heath Bars cut up into small chunks)
1/2 cup vanilla chip

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°.
  • Combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt in large bowl; set aside.
  • In another large bowl cream the butter, brown sugar and white sugar until smooth; about 3 minutes.
  • To the butter mixture, add the eggs and mix well. Next add the milk and vanilla extract. Blend for another minute.
  • Stir in the flour mixture and beat thoroughly. Add the pecans, Almond Roca bits (or Heath Bars) and the vanilla chips.
  • Arrange the cookies on a parchment lined baking sheet.
  • Leave several inches between each cookie as they will need room to expand.
  • Bake for about 10-12 minutes. Remove from oven, cool cookies on the sheet. Remove the cookies after 1 minute and cool on wire rack.

PEANUT BUTTER COOKIES - THE MAGNOLIA BAKERY

Peanut Butter Cookies - the Magnolia Bakery image

Chocolate chips may be substituted for the coarsely chopped chocolate. You can also use crunchy peanut butter but may want to reduce or eliminate the chopped peanuts. Cookies should be small.

Time 20m

Yield 36 cookies, 18 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 15

1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
1 cup creamy peanut butter (Skippy)
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1 large egg
1 tablespoon milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup peanut butter morsels (peanut butter chips)
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate, chopped very coarsely
1/4 cup chopped peanuts
1/4 cup sugar (approximately, for rolling)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a large bowl, beat the butter and the peanut butter together until fluffy.
  • Add the sugars and beat until smooth. Add the egg, milk and vanilla extract and mix well.
  • Add the flour mixture and beat thoroughly.
  • Stir in the peanut butter chips, chocolate, and peanuts.
  • Refrigerate the dough for 10-20 minutes.
  • Drop the dough by rounded teaspoonfuls into a bowl of granulated sugar.
  • Place onto ungreased cookie sheets, at least two inches apart. Using a fork, lightly indent with a crisss-cross pattern (do not over flatten).
  • Bake for 10 to 12 minutes. Do not overbake; cookies may appear to be underdone but they will continue to bake after removed from the oven.
  • Cool the cookies on the sheets for 1 minute, then remove to a rack to cool completely.

CHOCOLATE DROP COOKIES

These were cookies my aunt made all the time when I was little--worth the wait and very good! I have never made them with nuts, but I'm sure they are good with them also.

CAROL'S BROWNIE DROPS (CHOCOLATE COOKIES)

Carol's Brownie Drops (Chocolate Cookies) image

Expensive, decadent, and there's probably something in the Old Testatment banning them..... because they're so GOOD! This is my mother-in-law's favorite family cookie recipe. Best cookies I ever ate. Since all she does all day long is cook and take care of her home, I'd say that these babies rate right up there. Heck, make a double batch!

Time 45m

Yield 36 cookies

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 (4 ounce) baker's German sweet chocolate (8 ounces total)
1 tablespoon butter
2 eggs
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
3/4 cup pecans, finely chopped

Steps:

  • Melt chocolate and butter over hot water. Cool.
  • Beat eggs in mixer until foamy, (using a Kitchen Aide, use the regulat mixer, not the whisk), then add the sugar, two tablespoons at a time (it's 12 tablespoons, converted).
  • Beat in mixer until it thickens, about 5 minutes.
  • Blend in chocolate.
  • Add flour, baking powder, salt and cinnamon.
  • Stir in vanilla and nuts.
  • Using a regular cereal spoon (about 2/3 of a tablespoon in quantity), drop the mix balls on to a greased cookie sheet.
  • Bake in a pre-heated oven at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes. The cookies should feel "set" when done.
  • Cool slightly on sheet before storing/eating.
