HEALTHY HOMEMADE DOG TREATS
Easy healthy dog treats are both low-cal and low-fat. Because they are homemade, you control all the ingredients. Just mix, cut, and bake. Much healthier than commercial treats-any veterinarian would approve.

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350° convection or 375° conventional.
- Add 1/2 of a 14 oz can of pumpkin to 4 egg white (or 2 whole eggs), 1/4 cup water, 3 tablespoons peanut butter, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon. Turn on the mixer and combine until well mixed. I used the dough hook, and it took a couple of minutes. Now slowly add 3 cups of whole wheat flour with the mixer on 2. You will need to add a little more water to incorporate all the flour. For me, it was another 1/4 cup. You want about the consistency of pie dough.
- Now slowly add 3 cups of whole wheat flour with the mixer on 2. You will need to add a little more water to get all the flour incorporated. For me, it was another 1/4 cup. This is a very dry dough.
- Place the dough on a cutting surface cut it into manageable pieces.
- You can roll out the dough on a floured surface 1/4 inch thick and use bone-shaped or other cookie cutters. I rolled it into logs of 1-inch diameter. Cut into 1/4 to 1/2 inch pieces.
- Prep 2 large baking sheets with parchment paper and distribute the biscuits evenly. Bake for 30 minutes for semi-hard.

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Lightly spray a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray and sprinkle a little flour onto the surface you're planning to use to roll out the dough.
- In a medium bowl, mash the banana and mix in the shredded carrots.
- To the carrot and banana, add the water and apple juice. Stir.
- Add the oats and flour. Stir all of the ingredients together until they are thoroughly combined.
- Using your hands, knead the mixture until a dough forms. Dump the dough onto the lightly floured surface that you prepared earlier.
- Roll out the dough until it's about a half inch thick.
- Using a cookie cutter (bone shapes are fun!) or the rim of a small glass, cut into 3″ pieces. Place the pieces onto your lightly sprayed baking sheet.
- Bake the dog treats for 25 minutes.
- Before "serving", let them cool completely.
- *Tip: If your dog likes a little more crunch to his treats, then turn off the oven and let the treats cool there overnight.
- This recipe makes about 24 low fat, healthy dog treats. They'll last about 3 weeks, if stored in the fridge and up to 6 months in the freezer.

HOMEMADE DOG TREATS (TANGO'S TREATS)
My dogs--especially my puppy, Tango Foxtrot--loved carrots, apples, and peanut butter. So, for his first birthday, I combined Tango's favorite flavors into a special treat just for him. Make sure to use a natural peanut butter that does not contain added salt, sugar, or other ingredients. Keep extra treats stored in the fridge.
