My grandmother used to make this for parties and potlucks. It was loved by all back then, and it still is today. The classic combination of pasta, ham, cheese and a creamy sauce makes it irresistible. -Mary Savor, Woodburn, Indiana

8 ounces uncooked linguine, broken in half
2 cups cubed fully cooked ham
1 can (10-3/4 ounces) condensed cream of mushroom soup, undiluted
2-1/2 cups shredded Swiss cheese, divided
1 cup sour cream
1 medium onion, chopped
1/2 cup finely chopped green pepper
2 tablespoons butter, melted

Steps:

  • Cook linguine according to package directions; drain. Meanwhile, in a large bowl, combine the ham, soup, 2 cups cheese, sour cream, onion, green pepper and butter. Add the pasta; toss to coat., Transfer to a greased 13x9-in. baking dish. Cover and bake at 350° for 35 minutes. Uncover; sprinkle with remaining cheese. Bake until cheese is melted, 15-20 minutes longer.

8 ounces uncooked pasta
1/4 cup butter
1 clove garlic, minced
1/4 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
2 cups milk
1/2 teaspoon mustard
3 1/2 cups shredded colby cheese
1/2 lb ham, cut into small chunks
1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Cook and drain pasta per package directions.
  • Melt butter over low heat and saute garlic in it for 30 seconds.
  • Whisk in flour and salt and pepper and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until smooth and bubbly.
  • Gradually stir in milk and heat to a boil, stirring constantly.
  • Stir in mustard and Colby cheese and cook, stirring occasionally until cheese is melted.
  • Stir pasta and ham into cheese sauce.
  • Pour into ungreased 2 quart baking dish.
  • Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and bake uncovered for 20 to 25 minutes or until bubbly.

1 (8 ounce) package linguine
1/2 cup onion, chopped
1 garlic clove, minced
1/4 cup butter, melted
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
2 cups milk
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 (10 ounce) package frozen English peas, thawed
1 (4 ounce) package ham, sliced, cut into thin strips
1/2 cup swiss cheese, shredded (2 oz, I usually use another oz!)

Steps:

  • Cook the linguine according to package directions. Drain well, and set aside.
  • Saute onion in butter in a large skillet until tender. Add the garlic and cook about 30 seconds, until the garlic is fragrant. Add flour, and stir until blended. Cook 1 minute, stirring constantly. Gradually add milk; cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture is slightly thickened and bubbly. Stir in salt and pepper.
  • Add peas; cook over medium heat 2 to 3 minutes or until tender. Add ham; cook until thoroughly heated.
  • Remove from heat; add cheese, stirring until the cheese melts.
  • Place linguine and sauce in a large serving bowl, and toss gently to combine. Serve immediately.

1 carrot, sliced into 1/2-inch pieces (1/2 cup)
1 cup broccoli floret
1/2 cup cauliflower floret
3 tablespoons butter or 3 tablespoons margarine
6 ounces spinach linguine (or a mix of the two) or 6 ounces plain linguine (or a mix of the two)
1 cup mushroom, sliced
2 tablespoons flour
1 tablespoon parsley, snipped
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1 1/4 cups milk
6 ounces deli ham, sliced into bite-sized strips
1/2 cup cheddar cheese, shredded (2 ounces)

Steps:

  • In a Dutch oven or large saucepan, sauté carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower in 1 tbsp butter for 2-3 minutes.
  • Add pasta and boiling salted water, and boil until pasta is tender, but still firm, and vegetables are tender-crisp (10-15 minutes), stirring occasionally.
  • Drain; keep warm.
  • Melt remaining 2 tbsp butter and sauté mushrooms in until tender.
  • Blend in flour and seasonings, stirring continuously until flour is light golden brown.
  • Add milk, and cook, stirring continuously until thick and bubbly.
  • Add ham and cheese; continue to stir until cheese melts.
  • Pour sauce over pasta and vegetables, and toss to coat.

  • Add flour and heat for 1 minute on medium heat. Stir often.
  • Gradually add the milk and whip. Heat until boil.
