Hot Buttered Orange Brandy image

Inspired by Hot Buttered Rum #6888, but a desire to find a substitution for rum. Some good orange brandy seemed like a good idea for the substitute.

2 tablespoons brown sugar
4 teaspoons butter
1 dash ground cinnamon
1 dash ground nutmeg
1 dash ground cardamom
1 1/2 cups water
1/2 cup orange brandy
orange slice (optional)

Steps:

  • In a container that will hold 2 cups final hot liquid and pour easily, add together the brown sugar, butter, and spices.
  • Stir in the warm water.
  • Cook for about 2 minutes full power in the microwave, or until steaming hot.
  • Stir in the Orange Brandy.
  • Serve in cocktail glasses garnished with an orange slice.

2 dashes orange bitters, optional
Sweetened whipped cream, for topping
1 orange, for zesting

Steps:

  • Into a cup of steaming hot chocolate, stir in the orange brandy and orange bitters if using. Top with a dollop of whipped cream, then eat a few spoonfuls of whipped cream if no one is looking. Zest some orange over the whipped cream for aroma and prettiness and to impress your dinner guests with very little effort.

3 cups calvados (apple brandy)
7 tablespoons packed brown sugar
7 tablespoons butter
12 cups unfiltered apple cider
3/4 cup fresh lemon juice
12 cinnamon sticks
whole nutmeg

Steps:

  • Combine Calvados, sugar, and butter in large sauce pan over medium heat. Stir until sugar dissolves and butter melts.
  • Add cider and lemon juice; bring to low simmer but not a boil.
  • Place cinnamon stick in each serving cup. Pour hot cider into cups and grate small amount of fresh nutmeg over each. Serve hot.

Great drink if you're sick with a cold. My husband often brews kombucha at home and to have it in a hot toddy is amazing! This is the first kombucha toddy recipe ever made. I invented this and tweaked it. I'm sure it's a good starter for more variations of hot toddies. Enjoy!

1 teaspoon butter
1 orange, juiced
2 teaspoons brown sugar
3 ¼ cups kombucha
2 cinnamon sticks
8 whole cloves
½ cup brandy

Steps:

  • Melt butter in a saucepan over low heat. Add orange juice and brown sugar; stir until sugar dissolves, 2 to 3 minutes. Stir in kombucha, cinnamon sticks, and cloves. Simmer gently until flavors combine, about 5 minutes. Stir in brandy and pour into mugs.

2 cups sifted confectioners' sugar
2 tablespoons orange zest
2 tablespoons orange juice
4 tablespoons brandy

Steps:

  • Place butter, confectioners sugar, orange rind, orange juice, and brandy or cognac into food processor and mix until smooth. Pile sauce into serving bowl and refrigerate. Remove from fridge about one hour before serving.

  • Preheat the oven to 220°C (425°F). Prick every inch or so (2.5 cm) of the duck skin with a fork or tip of a sharp knife (this helps fat to render and results in crisper skin). Tie the legs together; fold and tuck the wings under the body. Season with salt and pepper. Place breast-side up on a rack in a roasting pan. Fill the pan with hot water to just below the duck. Cover duck with foil. Roast 1 hr 30 min.
  • Meanwhile, make the glaze by mixing the thawed orange juice concentrate and vinegar. After the duck has roasted 1 hr 30 min., reduce oven temperature to 160°C (325°F). Uncover duck and brush with about half the glaze. Roast 10 minutes more, then brush with remaining glaze. Roast additional 10 to 15 min., or until skin is crispy.
  • Also, while duck is roasting, make the orange sauce. Melt the butter and brown sugar in a saucepan over medium heat. Slowly and carefully, watching for splatters, whisk in zest, orange juice, chicken stock, lemon juice, soy sauce and brandy. Bring to a simmer and reduce by one-third. Mix cornstarch with 3 tbsp (45 mL) cold water until smooth. Whisk into sauce; cook until thickened. Keep sauce warm.
  • Rest duck 10 min. before carving. Garnish platter with orange slices and parsley, if desired. Serve orange sauce alongside.
