Honey-Roasted-Licorice Tea image

Number Of Ingredients 3

5 pieces Chinese honey-roasted licorice sticks
1 tablespoon honey
1 3- inch piece fresh ginger, cut in small slices

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 450 degrees. Line a small roasting pan with foil. Place the licorice sticks in the pan, drizzle with honey, and add 3 inches of the ginger root. Turn to coat. Roast for 5 minutes, turn and roast for 3 more minutes. Transfer immediately to a rack and cool.
  • When the sticks are cool enough to handle, place them, along with the remaining -inch piece of ginger and 5 cups water in a saucepan. Cover and bring to a boil. Simmer for 20 minutes. Strain and serve. (Licorice, a legume, acts like estrogen.)

7 bags black tea, such as Luzianne or Lipton
1/2 cup honey
4 kumquats, sliced into rounds, optional
2 key limes or 1 regular lime, sliced into rounds
1 lemon, sliced into rounds
Fresh mint leaves, for garnish

Steps:

  • Bring 4 cups water to a simmer in a saucepan. Remove from the heat, add the tea bags and let steep for 8 minutes. Remove the tea bags and stir in the honey. Let cool.
  • Add the sweetened tea to a pitcher along with 2 cups ice and another 4 cups water; stir. Add the sliced kumquats (if using), key limes and lemon. Pour into glasses over ice and garnish with mint.

1 cup fresh lemon juice
1 cup honey
1/4 cup water
4 cups cold, brewed mango tea

Steps:

  • Whisk together the lime juice, lemon juice, honey and water. Pour into an ice cube tray and freeze overnight. Place a few of the ice cubes in each glass and pour the tea over them. Let stand a few minutes until the cubes begin to melt. Stir and serve.

4 tea bags
2 cups boiling water
3 medium navel oranges
2 medium lemons
2 cups orange juice
1/4 cup lemon juice
3 tablespoons honey
1 liter ginger ale, chilled
Ice cubes

Steps:

  • Place tea bags in a teapot; add boiling water. Cover and steep for 3 minutes; discard tea bags. Pour tea into a pitcher. Peel and section 2 oranges and 1 lemon; add to tea. Stir in the orange juice, lemon juice and honey. Cover and refrigerate for 6 hours or overnight. Cut remaining orange and lemon into slices; freeze., Just before serving, strain and discard fruit from tea. Stir in ginger ale. Serve with frozen fruit slices and ice.

1/4 pound whole dried reishi mushrooms, available at Asian markets and some health food stores

Steps:

  • Chop the dried mushrooms coarsely and grind to a fine powder in a spice mill or use a mortar and pestle. Wrap this powder securely in muslin and set aside.
  • Bring 8 cups water to a boil. Drop the reishi bag in and lower the heat until the liquid has reduced by half, about 1 hours. Drink no more than 1 cup daily for no more than a month. The tea, a pick-me-up for the immune system, can be refrigerated for 1 week.
