HONEY-RUM GRILLED BANANAS



Honey-Rum Grilled Bananas image

These grilled bananas are the perfect dessert following a cookout. My family was skeptical at first, but everyone tried the recipe and they all agreed it was delicious. I use coconut rum from the Bahamas. -Lori Wendt, Mahomet, Illinois

2 tablespoons rum
2 tablespoons honey
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
4 medium firm unpeeled bananas
Vanilla ice cream

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, combine rum, honey and cinnamon; set aside. Cut bananas in half lengthwise, leaving the peel on. , Place bananas cut side down on grill. Cover and grill over medium heat for 3 minutes. Turn and brush with honey mixture. Cover and grill until tender, 5-6 minutes. Peel bananas. Serve immediately with ice cream.

4 banana, peeled and halved lengthwise
1 tablespoon brown sugar
2 teaspoons lemon juice
2 teaspoons honey
splash of orange juice

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil.
  • Arrange bananas onto the prepared baking sheet. Sprinkle brown sugar, lemon juice, honey, and orange juice over the bananas; cover with aluminum foil.
  • Bake for 5 minutes. Remove foil and continue baking until golden brown, about 3 to 5 minutes.

6 large bananas (yellow, firm)
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 1/4 cups brown sugar

Steps:

  • Gather the ingredients.
  • Prepare a medium-low (300°F to 325°F) gas or charcoal grill fire. Without removing the peel, cut each banana in half lengthwise.
  • Brush each half banana with lemon juice.
  • Combine the cinnamon and brown sugar in a small bowl.
  • Generously coat the cut side of the bananas in the sugar mixture.
  • Oil the grill grates. Place the banana halves on the grill, peel side up. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Turn the bananas over and cook for another 3 minutes.
  • Remove the bananas from the peels (or serve in the peel) with savory meals or serve them as dessert.

4 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 medium ripe bananas
Oil, for grill pan
1 pint vanilla ice cream

Steps:

  • Preheat a grill pan or grill grate over medium heat.
  • Melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the brown sugar, salt, and pumpkin pie spice. Bring to a boil, stirring until the sugar has completely dissolved. Simmer until mixture thickens about 5 minutes. Remove from heat, stir in the vanilla and set aside.
  • Cut each banana lengthwise, leaving the skin on and brush with butter and brown sugar sauce. Oil the grill pan and arrange the bananas, cut side down, on the pan. Grill until caramelized, about 4 minutes. Turn the bananas and grill until the skins are blackened bananas are soft and warmed through, about 5 minutes more. Baste frequently with the sauce during the cooking process.
  • Remove from grill to a serving platter and serve with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream, drizzled with remaining sauce.

Melted butter, optional

Steps:

  • Cut bananas in half so that both halves have all the skin on. Cut the halves lengthwise (so the bananas are shaped like boats) and LEAVE THE SKIN ON. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar. (If using butter, brush bananas lightly before sprinkling with cinnamon sugar.)
  • Place bananas cut side down for 1 to 3 minutes or until bananas have grill marks. Turn over and continue cooking until warmed through. When the banana skin starts to pull away from the fruit, they're done.
  • Eat right out of the skin while still warm or serve on top of vanilla ice cream.

  • Cut a small piece off the curved side of 4 unpeeled bananas so they'll sit level, then make a deep slit down the center of each through the peel; place on separate sheets of foil. Open the slits and brush the inside of each banana with melted butter, then sprinkle with sugar and 1 ounce chopped semisweet chocolate; fold up the foil. Grill the packets over high heat until the chocolate melts, 6 to 8 minutes (don't worry if the peel turns brown). Open the peels and top the bananas with ice cream, whipped cream, sprinkles and a cherry.

1/4 cup butter, melted
2 tablespoons rum or unsweetened apple juice
4 medium bananas

  • In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, butter and rum. Cut bananas into 1-in. slices; place each banana on a double thickness of heavy-duty foil (about 18 in. x 12 in.). Top with brown sugar mixture. Fold foil around banana mixture; seal packets tightly., Grill, covered, over medium heat for 7-9 minutes or until bananas are tender. Open foil carefully to allow steam to escape. Serve with ice cream.
