TEXAS TRASH
Not your ordinary snack mix! A BIG, BOLD FLAVOR just like the State of Texas! This can be doubled, tripled or quadrupled successfully. You can also add other ingredients, just keep the proportion of spicy butter to the dry ingredients the same as in the recipe. I usually add goldfish crackers to mine.

TEXAS TRASH SALSA
My husband and I lived on a small island in the Azores for two years. Fresh foods were hard to come by at times, so our group of friends all found many recipes using canned foods. This recipe is from a friend named Bobbie and I still make it today, even though I can now find a multitude of fresh ingredients. This is also good when used as a topping for hamburgers. If you want to make it spicier, you can add chopped jalapenos or hot sauce to taste. Cook time is chilling time.

Steps:
- Drain tomatoes well, reserving juice.
- Put peeled and quartered onion in a blender, then top with remaining ingredients.
- Pulse blender until ingredients are chopped as finely as you wish.
- By putting onion in the blender first, it will chop more finely than remaining ingredients.
- If salsa seems too thick, you can thin it by adding some of the reserved tomato juice.
- This can be eaten immediately, but tastes best if allowed to chill for 2 hours.
SMOKY AND SPICY PARTY MIX
I make this as yearly tradition at holiday time in my home. I also make a batch of this to send to my brother for his care package that I send him when he is deployed. I will warn you, it is very spicy and you'll want more and more!

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 250 degrees F (120 degrees C).
- Gently mix corn, rice, and wheat squares, oat rings, mixed nuts, mini pretzels, goldfish crackers, and sesame snacks in two 13x24-inch aluminum roasting pans, taking care not to break cereal.
- Stir bacon drippings, unsalted butter, Worcestershire sauce, MSG, liquid smoke, cayenne pepper, seasoned salt, chili powder, garlic powder, and hot pepper sauce together in a microwave-safe bowl. Cook on high in microwave for 3 or 4 30-second intervals, stirring each time, until mixture is warm, liquid, and fully combined.
- Stir seasoning sauce continuously as you pour half over the cereal mixture in each pan. Gently stir the snack mix and seasonings with a slotted spoon until thoroughly coated; do not crush cereal.
- Bake in the preheated oven until sauce is completely absorbed and the snack mix is crisp, about 2 hours; stir gently every 15 minutes. Cool completely and store in airtight containers. The snack mix stores well in freezer in airtight freezer bags, if it makes it that long.

KRISTY'S TEXAS TRASH
"Chex mixes" can of course be bought from almost every grocery & mega stores these days, but none of them hold a candle to this tried & true snack from scratch! I adapted my version from a Ladybird Johnson recipe out of a cookbook my husband gave me almost 20 years ago. And no-butter CANNOT be substituted for the margarine. I cook around 1 lb. of bacon to get the grease & drippings needed. Texjoy Steak seasoning is the only one I use. It's available online and limited availability in southern grocery stores.
