GRANDMA'S OATMEAL RAISIN COOKIES

Very moist (don't cook them too long), very rich in flavor, yet somehow not too heavy. Grandma's recipe! Even people who don't like oatmeal raisin cookies do like these.

2 cups shortening
2 cups brown sugar
½ cup white sugar
4 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground allspice
1 teaspoon ground cloves
6 cups rolled oats
1 cup milk
2 cups raisins

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the shortening, brown sugar and white sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Combine the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, allspice and cloves; stir into the sugar mixture until well blended. Mix in the rolled oats alternately with the milk. Finally, stir in the raisins. Drop by heaping spoonfuls 3 inches apart onto the prepared cookie sheets.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 11 minutes, or until edges are golden and tops are dry. Cool on cookie sheets for 1 minute before removing to cool on wire racks.

2 cups raisins, chopped
2 cups boiling water
3/4 cup butter-flavored shortening
1 cup sugar
3 large eggs
2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups old-fashioned oats
1-1/4 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups chopped walnuts

Steps:

  • Place raisins in a small bowl. Cover with boiling water; let stand for 5 minutes. Drain and set aside., In a large bowl, cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs. Combine the flour, oats, baking soda and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture and mix well. Stir in walnuts and raisins., Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls 2 in. apart onto greased baking sheets. Flatten with a glass. Bake at 325° for 8-10 minutes or until bottoms are browned. Remove to wire racks.

These are the best oatmeal raisin cookies. My grandma makes these all the time and I finally got the recipe and had to post! Perfect with a cold glass of milk! If you bake them on parchment paper, you dont have to spray the baking sheet so you can save calories for more important things! :)

1/2 cup Crisco
1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 cups quick oats
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup coconut
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
parchment paper

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Mix flour, baking soda,salt, nutmeg,and cinnamon, set aside.
  • Cream Crisco, butter, and sugars together in large bowl.
  • Beat in eggs and vanilla.
  • Add flour mixture.
  • Add oats, raisins, coconut.
  • Bake on cookie sheet lined with parchment paper for about 8-10 minutes.

1 cup(s) shortening
1 1/2 cup(s) sugar ( dark brown or white sugar)
2 - eggs
1/4 teaspoon(s) salt
1 teaspoon(s) vanilla extract
1 teaspoon(s) cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon(s) cloves
1/2 teaspoon(s) nutmeg
1 cup(s) raisins
1 teaspoon(s) baking soda
1 cup(s) walnut pieces
2 cup(s) oatmeal
2 cup(s) white or whole wheat flour

Steps:

  • Cream first 8 items Optional One cup raisins ( bring these to a boil in just enough water to cover them. Drain raisins and save 1/2 cup water to the raisin water add 1 teaspoon baking soda and stir until disolved. add this to the above creamed items also add 2 cups oatmeal and 2 cups flour a little at a time until disolved.. Nuts are optional about 1 cup works well these don't spread much so scoop about an ice cream scoop is a good amount per cookie. Bake at 350 for 10 to 15 minutes until slightly brown on edges. I sprinkle with colored sugar for the holidays.
