5 TIPS FOR PROPERLY ACTIVATING G2 POLYMERIC SAND WITH WATER

Work in small sections. This is a recommendation we make for watering anyof our polymeric sands. Work in manageable sections of about 30 sq. ft. at a time (depending on the temperature).
Keep the sand in the joints. Using too much water or too much pressure can cause the polymeric sand to wash out of the joints. Obviously if this happens, the product cannot perform as intended.
Keep the surface wet. This ties back into the first recommendation we made for working in small sections. You neverwant the surface to dry out until the water activation phase is complete.
Start at the lowest point. Watering must be started at the lowest point of the surface. Starting at a high point can cause the water to flow downwards and create a pool.
Use the Shower setting. Make sure you have an adjustable nozzle on your hose. You’ll want to use the Shower setting when it’s time to water in your G2 Intelligent Polymeric Sand.

Inspect for moisture. This is critical. Polymeric sand needs to be installed on a dry surface. Make sure there isn’t any dampness prior to diving right in and dumping those bags!
Check the weather. While you hate to see rain in the forecast on a normal day, you’ll hate to see it even more on a sand installation day. In fact, there can’t be any rain in the forecast within one hour of installation on a drainage base and within 24 hours of installation on a non-drainage base.
Have your tools ready. Make sure you have all the tools you’ll need ready at the job site. You definitely do not want to experience that “Oh No!” moment after the sand has been poured.
Pour the sand. Once you’ve prepped the area, perfected the surface, and confirmed it’s dry (of course), you can pour the sand. When emptying the bags, make sure to distribute evenly to help maintain consistency of the gradation of the product.

Spread the sand. Spread the G2 Intelligent Polymeric Sand across the paver surface using a hard-bristle broom. Make sure the sand completely fills the joints (and do not use other materials in the bottom of the joints).
Vibrate. Vibrate the G2 into the paver joints using a vibratory plate compactor. We recommend using a rubber pad to protect the paver surface. (Pro tip: A roller compactor is best to use for slab installations.)
Sweep excess. Sweep off any excess G2 Intelligent Polymeric Sand from the paved surface; first with a hard-bristle broom, then with a soft-bristle broom.
Activate with water. Activate the G2 by showering 50 sq. ft. sections at a time for one minute or until the sand is saturated from top to bottom (starting at the lowest point).
