10 apples, quartered
¾ cup white sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon ground allspice

Steps:

  • Place apples in a large stockpot and add enough water cover by at least 2 inches. Stir in sugar, cinnamon, and allspice. Bring to a boil. Boil, uncovered, for 1 hour. Cover pot, reduce heat, and simmer for 2 hours.
  • Strain apple mixture though a fine mesh sieve. Discard solids. Drain cider again though a cheesecloth lined sieve. Refrigerate until cold.

2 ounces hibiscus tea
1/4 cup honey
4 cups apple cider
8 to 10 sprigs fresh mint
2 apples, cut into 1 1/2-inch pieces
2 pears, cut into 1 1/2-inch pieces
2 oranges, sliced into half-moons

Steps:

  • Bring 4 cups water to a boil in a medium pot. Add the hibiscus tea and honey and let steep for 10 minutes. Strain out the tea and let cool completely.
  • In a large pitcher, stir to combine the brewed tea, apple cider, mint, apples, pears and oranges. Fill glasses with ice and pour the fruit cider over to serve.

  • Peel the orange and place the segments in a 4 quart or larger slow cooker. (Pictures show unpeeled- we prefer peeling it for a less bitter flavor.) Wash the apples, cut into quarters, and place in the slow cooker. Add the cinnamon sticks, ground cloves, and sugar. Add enough water to cover the fruit.
  • After 6-7 hours, the fruit will be very soft. Use a large spoon to mash the fruit and release its liquids. Allow the cider to cook on low for 1 more hour.
  • Very slowly strain the chunky liquid though a fine mesh sieve into a large pot or pitcher. You can discard the solids. Strain the cider one more time to rid any other solids. Serve the cider warm.
