FRENCH ONION BROWN RICE: EASY, DELICIOUS & MAKE AHEAD!



French Onion Brown Rice: Easy, Delicious & Make Ahead! image

Number Of Ingredients 4

plain brown rice (not instant or quick cooking)
beef consommé (beef broth can be used but is not as rich)
Lipton dry onion soup
2-3 TB butter, melted (I sometimes use EVOO instead but the taste isn't "buttery")

Steps:

  • For 6 cups of brown rice, put 3 cups brown rice into the cooker insert.
  • Add the beef consommé, onion soup, and melted butter. F
  • ill water to the #3 line marked inside of the rice cooker insert.
  • Put the insert into the cooker, stir rice well, and close lid.
  • Press "delay timer" once for every hour that you want to wait until rice is fully cooked. (If you want rice ready to eat in 4 hours, press delay timer 4 times).

I adapted this from a bag of Publix supermarket brand Extra Long Grain rice. I love it because it has 4 ingredients but has so much flavor. It's wonderful to use to sop up broth or gravy from entrees...

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 cup long grain rice
1 (10 1/2 ounce) can condensed beef consomme
1 (10 1/2 ounce) can condensed French onion soup
1 teaspoon butter

Steps:

  • Wash the cup of rice thoroughly - five times should do it to get the water clear. Don't skip this step! (Note: use a regular English measuring cup, not the plastic cup that comes with your rice cooker).
  • Put the rice and the soups in the rice cooker. Float the butter on top. Close the cooker. If using a fuzzy logic cooker press the regular rice menu option and start, or just press ON if using a kettle style cooker. It should take anywhere from 55 minutes to an hour to complete.

This rich rice dish can be made in a rice cooker, my favorite, or a regular pot. It goes well with red meat, such as stew or steak.

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 1/2 cups uncooked white rice
3 tablespoons butter or 3 tablespoons margarine
4 -6 slices bacon
1/2 medium onion

Steps:

  • Cut onion into chunks (approx. about 1/2").
  • Slice bacon into small pieces (approx. 1/4" square).
  • Place rice in rice cooker and add water as recommended (usually about 2 cups). Set to cook.
  • Heat medium-sized frying pan over medium heat. Fry bacon and onion together until bacon is crisp.
  • When rice is done, add butter or margarine and stir to combine. Add bacon and onion mixture and stir to combine.

This easy rice goes great with any dish ! Looks and tastes like it took forever ! No one will guess it came out of the microwave.

1 1/2 cups instant rice
1/4 cup butter
1/3 cup chicken broth
1/2 cup canned mushroom (1 4oz can of pieces and stems)
1 cup Campbell's French onion soup (1 can)
1 pinch salt
1 pinch pepper

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients in microwave safe bowl.
  • microwave for 10 mins and stir.
  • If all liquid is not absored, microwave until all liquid is absored and the rice is cooked.
  • If the rice is not cooked but there is no more liquid, add more chicken broth.
  • Enjoy !
