Categories     Main Course     Main Meal     Side Dish

Number Of Ingredients 8

8-10 hot dogs, I used Hebrew National
2 15 ounce cans baked beans, I used Heinz
1/8 cup ketchup
1/8 cup BBQ sauce
1/4 cup light or dark brown sugar
2 tbsp yellow mustard
1 tsp onion powder
1 tbsp butter or olive oil

Steps:

  • 1.Preheat oven to 375 degrees. spray a casserole dish (This is the same one my mom gave me all those years ago, it's a classic and comes with a lid) with cooking spray, set aside. 2.Grill or fry the hot dogs in a nonstick pan or grill pan use a tablespoon of butter or olive oil. Cook just until a few minutes just to make them slightly crispy or with grill marks. This step is optional. 3.Let the hot dogs cool just so you can slice them up into about 1 inch pieces.4.Toss the cut hot dogs into the casserole dish along with the two cans beans and the spices. Gently mix in all the ingredients. Try not to break up the beans. 5.Bake on a foil lined cookie sheet for about 20 to 30 minutes or until casserole is bubbling. Take out of the oven and let sit on cooling rack for about 5 minutes. Now, serve up! Enjoy!

FRANKS 'N BEANS WITH BACON AND CHEDDAR

Franks 'n Beans With Bacon and Cheddar image

Just a quickie, easy-peasy recipe I throw together that my hubby loves! (And I love that it's so easy!) Inexpensive, too!

Provided by Wildflour

Categories     One Dish Meal

Time 55m

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 (16 ounce) cans bush's best homestyle baked beans, the spicy kind with brown sugar and bacon
6 -8 slices bacon, cooked and broken into pieces
1 small onion, chopped
1 celery rib, sliced thin
1 (12 ounce) package hebrew national all-beef hot dogs, or your favorite
1 tablespoon butter
2 cups sargento 5 blend mexican shredded cheese, can sub cheddar or 2 cups colby-monterey jack cheese

Steps:

  • In large deep frying pan, fry bacon, drain on papertowels, set aside.
  • Pour off all or most of bacon grease. Add 1 Tbl. butter and melt.
  • Add celery, onion and hotdogs cut up into 1/2-3/4 inch slices.
  • Cook over medium heat, stirring, til hotdogs are lightly browned and celery and onions are soft.
  • Drain off grease and liquid. (Just push ingredients to one side of the pan, then tilt pan and spoon off.).
  • Dump in both cans of beans and stir lightly/fold in til combined.
  • Pour all into casserole dish.
  • Top with shredded cheese.
  • Toss into 350 oven and bake, uncovered, til bubbly and cheese is melted. About 20-30 minutes.
  • Serve with cornbread and enjoy!
  • *If you use the brand of beans suggested, they are just fine as is. If you choose to use another brand you may need to doctor them a bit. ;).
  • **Also, we LOVE cheese, so if the amount is too much for you, just cut back on it. And if you prefer, you don't even have to add it at all. If not adding cheese, you can just finish this on the stove and heat through after adding the beans, or you can bake. (Give it a little stir halfway through baking time.) Either way is just fine.

BEANS AND FRANKS BAKE

Beans and Franks Bake image

I have made this beans and franks casserole several times, and it's always a hit. The kid-pleasing combo has a sweet flavor from the baked beans and the corn bread topping. The recipe saves on pans to wash if all were cooked separately. -Roxanne VanGelder, Rochester, New Hampshire

  • Place navy beans in a large pot or bowl and cover with water. Enough water that covers about 3-inches over the beans. Allow to soak overnight then drain. Alternately, if you don’t have time, place beans in a large pot and cover the beans with several inches of water. Bring to a boil over high heat. Once the water boils, remove from heat and allow the beans to soak for 1 hour then drain.
  • Heat a large, oven-safe pot over medium heat. Add soaked and drained beans and 6 cups of broth or water. Bring to a simmer and simmer uncovered for 1 hour.
  • In a separate saucepan, over medium heat cook bacon slices until the fat is rendered (The bacon doesn’t need to be cooked through as it will go in the oven and cook much more.) Remove from the pan (leaving the fat in the pan), and place on a plate and set aside.
  • Add the onions, bell pepper, and garlic to the pot with the bacon fat. Cook until softened and just beginning to brown, about 5 minutes. Add the pineapple and cook for 1 minute more. Set aside.
