Easy Peasy Spice Pine Cones Recipes
EASY PEASY "SPICE PINE CONES"
We are going over the river and through the woods to see family today. Needed a last minute craft for the kids. Decided to make one up,using pine cones that we collect from our yard. I love the smell of Nutmeg but Cinnamon or any other spice can also be used to match the holiday you are making them for. Today I will be using dried, grated orange peel and grated cloves on some with the kids. These can be used as ornaments, name tag holders for your holiday table, or clustered in a glass bowl with ornaments for a last minute hostess gift. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Steps:
- Grate the nutmeg.
- Spray pine cone with spray glue, then put it into the cup/mug.
- Sprinkle nutmeg over the pine cone using the cup to contain the extra. Tap excess off before removing.
- Possible uses. Name tag holders for your table, hostess gift, an ornament. Use whatever spices please your nose. Today I am using orange peel and cloves grated over the pine cones to add to the holiday feel.
CHOCOLATE-ALMOND PINE CONES
In ancient mythology, pine cones symbolized motherhood and fertility. These edible pine cones, made from almond paste and melted chocolate and similar in flavor to a chocolate-covered cherry, are a perfect addition to the Christmas dessert table.

Steps:
- Divide almond paste into 12 equal portions. Form each into a cone shape, about 1 1/2 inches tall and 1 inch in diameter.
- Beginning at the base, insert the pointed end of the sliced almonds into the paste to resemble a pine cone.
- Melt chocolate and shortening in a microwave-safe mixing bowl in 15-second intervals, stirring after each interval, 1 to 3 minutes. Add more shortening if needed to achieve a somewhat runny consistency that will easily coat a surface.
- Insert a toothpick into the bottom of each cone. Holding the pine cone over the bowl, spoon melted chocolate over each pine cone. Use another toothpick to spread the chocolate so that the pine cone is completely covered.
- Place on a wire rack over wax paper; let stand until firm, about 2 hours. Using a sifter, dust each pine cone with powdered sugar to resemble snow. Use immediately or store in an airtight container at room temperature for several weeks.

- Stir Chai Spice into the dough portion. Wrap and chill dough 30 to 60 minutes or until easy to handle. Preheat oven to 375°F. On a lightly floured surface roll dough to 1/4 inch thick. Use a 2-inch teardrop-shape or oval cookie cutter to cut dough. Arrange cutouts 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Insert almonds at an angle on cutouts to resemble a pine cone, leaving about 1/2 inch at the bottoms.
- Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until edges start to brown. Cool on cookie sheet 1 minute. Remove; cool on wire racks.
- Place chocolate and shortening in a small bowl. Microwave 1 minute or until melted and smooth, stirring once. Dip the bottom of each pine cone into melted chocolate mixture. Let stand or chill until set. If desired, lightly sprinkle with powdered sugar.
