TURF MIX

Turf Mix image

Forget standard party snack mixes, forget trail mix...the Super Bowl demands crispy-crunchy-salty turf mix.

Provided by Anna Stockwell

Categories     Super Bowl     snack     Pea     Coconut     Butter     Lime     Dill     Garlic     Party     Cocktail Party     Peanut Free     Dairy Free     Wheat/Gluten-Free     Vegetarian

Yield Makes about 12 cups

Number Of Ingredients 13

3 cups Chex rice cereal (about 3.5 oz.)
2 cups wasabi peas (about 6 oz.)
1 (3.5-oz.) bag Dang sticky-rice chips
1 (3.3-oz.) bag baked snap pea crisps
1 (3.1-oz.) bag Dang coconut chips
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
2 (0.18-oz.) packages SeaSnax, torn into quarters
1 Tbsp. plus 2 tsp. garlic powder
1 Tbsp. finely grated lime zest (from about 2 1/2 limes)
1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper
1/2 tsp. kosher salt
1/2 tsp. sugar
1/4 cup dried dill, plus more for serving

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325°F. Toss rice cereal, wasabi peas, rice chips, snap pea crisps, and coconut chips in a large bowl. Drizzle butter over and toss gently to coat. Transfer to a parchment-lined rimmed baking sheet and bake until lightly golden brown and warmed through, 8-10 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, wipe out bowl and set aside. Pulse SeaSnax, garlic powder, lime zest, cayenne, salt, sugar, and 1/4 cup dill in a spice grinder or mini food processor, shaking or scraping down sides as needed, until finely ground.
  • As soon as snack mix comes out of the oven, transfer in 3 batches to reserved bowl, sprinkling each batch after adding to bowl with about one-third of dill-seaweed mixture. Gently toss with your hands (it should still be warm at this point, but cool enough to touch) until thoroughly coated. Let cool completely. Top with more dill to serve.
  • Do Ahead: Turf mix can be made 5 days ahead. Let cool, then store in an airtight container at room temperature.

WASABI SNACK MIX

Wasabi Snack Mix image

Who doesn't love chex mix? This one has an Asian flair & would be a different twist whether you are filling the snack bowl for a party or looking for small gifts for coworkers. This mix is slightly sweet from the hoisin sauce and not 'blow your head off' hot. For easy gift presentation fill inexpensive disposable frosting cones. Tied with a pretty ribbon, they look festive and are easy to do.

  • Wasabi Mashed Potatoes. There’s nothing wrong with regular mashed potatoes, but these wasabi mashed potatoes are way more delectable. You and your guests will be amazed at how one tiny pinch of wasabi paste can transform an ordinarily mild dish.
  • Wasabi Mayo. With its distinct taste and iconic burning sensation, some people aren’t too keen on adding wasabi to their meals. If you’re one of them, I urge you to give wasabi mayo a try.
  • Steak Sandwiches with Wasabi Cream Sauce. Obviously, the star here is the steak. So, splurge on a ribeye or strip steak, and it’ll be juicy, tender, and buttery.
  • Wasabi Peas. This deceiving snack may look harmless, but watch out – it packs quite a punch! Some people can’t get enough, whereas others can’t handle them at all.
  • Grilled Salmon Fillets with Wasabi & Lemon Cream Sauce. If you want something light for dinner, you can’t go wrong with these grilled salmon fillets with wasabi and lemon cream sauce.
  • Wasabi Ginger Grilled Chicken. Time to fire up the barbie because we’re making wasabi and ginger grilled chicken. The marinade doubles as the sauce, so you’ll really taste the blend of wasabi, soy sauce, honey, and ginger in this dish.
  • Ginger Wasabi Edamame Hummus. If you like hummus and spicy food, I bet you’ll enjoy this recipe. Here, the classic dip gets extra flavor from ginger and wasabi.
  • Shrimp Cocktail Sauce. Give classic shrimp cocktail sauce a wasabi makeover with this fun recipe! I love-love-love how the wasabi complements the rest of the ingredients rather than just overpowering it all.
  • Beets & Wasabi Hummus. I can’t get over how pretty this pink hummus is! Of course, we have mashed beets to thank for its gorgeous hue. And did I mention?
  • Sushi Salad with Wasabi Soy Dressing. I know what you’re thinking, and, yes, sushi salad does sound a little odd. But please trust me, you have to try it.
