Ham and Cheese Ziti image

Macaroni-and-cheese lovers, take notice! This one has fun tube-shaped pasta, ham and cheese and is certain to be a favorite.

2 1/2 cups uncooked ziti pasta (9 ounces)
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1 garlic clove, finely chopped
1/4 cup Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups milk
1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard
2 cups shredded Colby cheese (8 ounces)
4 ounces sliced cooked deli ham, cut into thin strips
1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F. Cook and drain pasta as directed on package.
  • While pasta is cooking, melt butter in 3-quart saucepan over low heat. Cook garlic in butter 30 seconds, stirring frequently. Stir in flour and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture is smooth and bubbly. Gradually stir in milk. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Boil and stir 1 minute. Stir in mustard and Colby cheese. Cook, stirring occasionally, until cheese is melted.
  • Stir pasta and ham into cheese sauce. Pour into ungreased 2-quart casserole. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Bake uncovered 20 to 25 minutes or until bubbly.

1 cup cooked ziti pasta
1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
2 teaspoons oil
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup sliced fresh mushrooms
1/2 yellow pepper, cut into strips
1 clove garlic, minced
salt and pepper
1/2 cup cherry tomatoes, halved

Steps:

  • For Vinaigrette----------.
  • In a small bowl combine basil, balamic vinegar, oil, brown sugar, 1/2 t.
  • salt.
  • Set aside.
  • For the Salad------------.
  • Spray a medium skillet with non-stick cooking spray and cook the vegetables for about 10 minutes, stirring throughout.
  • In a large bowl, combine the ziti, the vegetable mixture and the vinaigrette.
  • Season with salt and pepper and serve.

I never seem to make enough of this salad. When people see the recipe, they look at me as if I am a little odd...but when they eat it they can't seem to stop! This recipe is great for kids and adults alike. The garlic is optional. Also, to lighten up the salad, substitute light mayonnaise, light sour cream, and turkey ham.

8 ounces ziti pasta
1 pound cooked ham, cubed
1 large red bell pepper, cut into 1 inch pieces
1 large green bell pepper, cut into 1 inch pieces
1 large red onion, coarsely chopped
15 small sweet pickles, chopped, juice reserved
1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
1 cup mayonnaise
½ cup sour cream
2 ½ teaspoons beef bouillon granules
1 tablespoon white vinegar
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
2 cloves garlic, minced

Steps:

  • Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add pasta and cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until al dente; drain.
  • In a large bowl, mix together the drained pasta, ham, peppers, onion, pickles and tomatoes.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sour cream, beef bouillon granules, vinegar, salt, pepper, garlic and 1/2 cup of reserved pickle juice. Fold into the salad and toss gently until evenly coated. Chill overnight to allow the flavors to blend. Serve near room temperature.

I "invented" this salad as I went along...it's a combination of various pasta salad recipes I'd seen. It can be served as a side dish, of course. In summer, however, my husband doesn't care for hot meals, so I make it as a main dish. We're recent city transplants with two young children, ages 6 and 3.

1 package (7 ounces) shell macaroni, cooked and drained
2 cups cubed fully cooked ham
1 cup chopped green pepper
1 cup chopped tomato
1/4 cup chopped onion
DRESSING:
1/2 cup Miracle Whip
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
2 tablespoons milk
1/4 teaspoon salt
Additional Parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, toss macaroni with ham, green pepper, tomato and onion. In a small bowl, combine Miracle Whip, Parmesan cheese, milk and salt. Pour over pasta mixture and stir to coat. Cover and refrigerate. , Sprinkle with additional Parmesan before serving.

I made this just recently and had to post the recipe... this salad is absolutely wonderful! Plan ahead this needs to chill overnight, don't even think about trying this salad before the 24 hour chilling time, I can tell you that this salad takes on a whole different flavor when chilled overnight! Adjust all ingredients to taste, if you like a more creamy salad then double the dressing amounts. Don't omit the beef bouillon granules, it's what makes the dressing!

8 ounces ziti pasta
1 lb cubed ham
1 large red bell pepper, seeded cut into 1-inch pieces
1 large green bell pepper, seeded and cut into 1-inch pieces
1 large red onion, coarsley chopped
15 small sweet gherkins, chopped (reserve 1/2 the juice)
10 small cherry tomatoes (can use more or less)
1 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup sour cream
2 1/2 teaspoons beef bouillon granules (I use OXO brand)
1 tablespoon white vinegar
3 teaspoons seasoning salt (or to taste)
1/2 teaspoon black pepper (or to taste)
1 teaspoon fresh minced garlic

Steps:

  • Cook the pasta in a large pot of boiling water until al dente; drain and rinse under cold water, place in a large bowl.
  • Add in the cubed ham, bell peppers, onion, chopped sweet pickles; toss to combine.
  • In a small bowl whisk together mayo, sour cream, beef bouillon granules, vinegar, seasoned salt, pepper, fresh garlic and 1/2 cup reserved sweet pickle juice; add to the pasta mixture and toss well to combine.
  • Season with more salt and pepper if desired.
  • Cover and chill 24 hours to blend flavors.
  • Just before serving add in the small whole cherry tomatoes.
  • Best if served near room temperature.
