Steps:
- In a medium bowl, combine the flour and sugar. Add cinnamon, if desired. Slowly drizzle the butter into the bowl while stirring the crumbs with a fork. I like to start with 3-4 Tablespoons and add more as needed until the crumbs form. Do not over-mix (you do not want this to become like a dough).
- Store in the refrigerator until ready to use. Evenly spread across muffins, quick breads, or pie.

Steps:
- For Traditional Strawberry Topping (OVEN BAKE METHOD): Preheat oven to 350-degrees F; line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside. Add Oreos to the bowl of a food processor and pulse until roughly chopped (24-32 pulses). Sprinkle the strawberry Jell-O powder over the Oreos. Pulse twice to combine. Pour the melted butter (and salt if using unsalted butter) over the mixture and pulse until thoroughly combined and the mixture resembles coarse crumbs (about 8-12 pulses). Transfer the crumbles to the prepared baking sheet and arrange in an even layer. Bake for 7-10 minutes, or until lightly toasted and fragrant (baking time will depend upon oven strength and the amount of butter you use). Place baking sheet on a wire cooling rack and cool completely to room temperature. Use and enjoy or store for later!
- For Quick Strawberry Topping (NO-BAKE METHOD): Add the Oreos to the bowl of a food processor and pulse until roughly chopped (24-32 pulses). Add the strawberries to the bowl and pulse a few times to combine. Drizzle 5 tablespoons of melted butter (and salt if using unsalted butter) over the crushed strawberry mixture. Pulse or stir until the mixture is just moistened (not wet) and comes together. Stir in more melted butter, ½ tablespoon at a time, as needed. You want the mixture to resemble coarse crumbs - don't over process! Serve and enjoy or store for later!

Steps:
- Place rack in lowest position in oven. Heat oven to 450 degrees F ( 230 degrees C).
- To Make Topping: Mix 1 cup flour, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup white sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon; cut in butter or margarine until mixture is moist and crumbly, and clumps together easily.
- To Make Filling: Peel, core, and slice apples into approximately 1/8 inch slices. If you cut them too thick you'll have crunchy apples. In another bowl, toss cut up apples, white sugar, lemon juice, 1 teaspoon cinnamon and nutmeg. Sprinkle in flour, and stir until apples are evenly coated.
- Layer apple slices in pie shell. You will have a lot of apples, but they will shrink. Layer them higher in the middle. Pour left over juice from apple mixture over apples. Pat the brown sugar topping evenly over apples to make a top crust.
- Place pie on cookie sheet in oven to catch juice droppings. Bake for 15 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C), and bake for 45 minutes to one hour; bake until center of pie has no resistance. If top starts to get too dark, cover with piece of foil. Cool on wire rack before serving.

Steps:
- Make the caramel crunch: Line a rimmed baking sheet with a nonstick baking mat; set aside. In a small saucepan, combine sugar and 1 1/2 tablespoons water; mixture should look like wet sand. Place saucepan over medium-high heat and cook until sugar is dark amber in color. Immediately pour caramel onto prepared baking sheet; let cool completely.
- Crack cooled caramel into large pieces and place in a resealable plastic bag. Crush into tiny pieces using a rolling pin; you should have a scant 1/2 cup of caramel crunch.
BUTTER CRUNCH TOPPING
A tasty make-ahead topping for coffee cakes, muffins, quick breads or mix it with ice cream and serve with butterscotch sauce. Sprinkle one cup over apple or other fruit crisp filling before baking. My favorite version is with pecans or a combination of nuts and coconut. Originally from a 1971 Betty Crocker recipe card.
