FAVORITE CRANBERRY APPLE PEAR SAUCE

Favorite Cranberry Apple Pear Sauce image

Cranberry apple pear sauce is the perfect side dish for Thanksgiving or Christmas. It's packed with saucy cranberries, apples, pears, and sweet raisins.

Provided by Emily Koch

Categories     Side

Time 55m

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 pounds fresh cranberries (8 cups)
3 cooking apples, peeled and chopped (I used granny smith)
2 firm pears, peeled and chopped
2 cups golden raisins
1 1/2 cups to 2 cups raw or granulated sugar (adjust according to how sweet/tart you like it. And keep in mind how sweet your orange liquor is)
2 oranges zested
1 cup fresh orange juice (about 3 oranges)
2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
pinch of salt
1/2 cup orange liquor, such as cointreau or grand mala*

Steps:

  • Add all of the ingredients except the orange liquor, to a large pot. Bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer. Allow the mixture to simmer for 35 to 45 minutes, stirring occasionally. You will know the cranberry sauce is done when most of the cranberries have popped and the sauce has reduced and become thick (see photo in post above).
  • With the heat off stir in the orange liquor. Taste and add more sugar if needed.
  • allow the sauce to mostly cool before transferring to airtight containers and storing in the fridge. Allow it to chill in the fridge for at least 4 hours (or overnight). This recipe is best made up to 2 days in advance so the flavors can really develop. You can make it up to 1 or 2 weeks in advance as it keeps for a long time in the fridge. Serve cold.

SUPERB CRANBERRY SAUCE WITH APPLES AND PEARS

Superb Cranberry Sauce with Apples and Pears image

This cranberry sauce has extra spices, diced fruits, and orange juice added to make it more exciting than plain old cranberries. Everyone always loves this at Thanksgiving and it disappears fast! It's best when made the night before and left to rest in the refrigerator overnight so all the flavors can blend together.

Time 9h

Yield 32

Number Of Ingredients 9

5 (3 inch) cinnamon sticks
8 whole allspice berries
8 whole cloves
6 cups fresh cranberries
2 ¼ cups orange juice
4 Gala apples, peeled, cored and diced
4 Bosc pears, peeled, cored and diced
3 cups white sugar
1 cup brown sugar

Steps:

  • Place the cinnamon sticks, allspice berries, and cloves onto the center of a 8 inch square piece of cheesecloth. Gather together the edges of the cheesecloth, and tie with kitchen twine to secure. Place the sachet into a large saucepan along with the cranberries and orange juice. Bring to a boil over high heat, and cook until the berries begin to burst, about 10 minutes.
  • Stir in the apples, pears, white sugar, and brown sugar. Return to a boil, then reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer about 25 minutes until the apples and pears are slightly soft. Remove and discard the spice sachet. Scrape the sauce into a bowl, cover, and refrigerate overnight. Serve cold.

CRANBERRY SAUCE WITH APPLES

Cranberry Sauce with Apples image

Fall flavors! Traditional cranberry sauce with the addition of Granny Smith apples. The pectin in the apples helps the sauce to set and brings another layer of flavor to a classic recipe. Make it several days in advance to relieve some of the holiday stress.

APPLE PEAR SAUCE

Apple Pear Sauce image

Pear applesauce? Papplesauce? Appearsauce? When the apple-pear sauce is served warm, you will not need any additional sugar. As it cools it loses some of the natural sweetness, and you might want to add sugar to taste.

PEAR CRANBERRY SAUCE

Pear Cranberry Sauce image

We don't care for regular cranberry sauce, so I usually perk it up with other fruit. This pear version is the one my family requests most often. It's sweet, tangy and a beautiful ruby-red color. Since it keeps well in the refrigerator, I often make it in advance.

Provided by Taste of Home

Time 30m

Yield about 2 cups.

Number Of Ingredients 6

2-1/2 cups cubed peeled ripe pears (about 3 medium)
1 cup water
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1 cinnamon stick (3 inches), broken in half
1 package (12 ounces) fresh or frozen cranberries
1 to 1-1/4 cups sugar

Steps:

  • In a large saucepan, combine the pears, water, ginger and cinnamon. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 5 minutes. Stir in cranberries and sugar. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 10-12 minutes or until the cranberries have popped and sauce is slightly thickened, stirring several items. , Discard cinnamon sticks. Mash sauce if desired. Cool. Cover and refrigerate until serving.

CRANBERRY SAUCE WITH APPLE AND PEAR

CRANBERRY SAUCE WITH APPLE AND PEAR image

Categories     Condiment/Spread     Thanksgiving     Apple     Pear

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 5

• 3 apples, peeled, cored and choppe
• 3 pears, peeled, cored and chopped
• 1 package of frozen or fresh cranberries (12 oz)
• Splash of orange juice (1-2 oz)
• ½-1 Tablespoon maple syrup (or honey on SCD/GAPS)

Steps:

  • Place apples, pears, cranberries, and orange juice in pot. Turn heat to low and simmer for 25 minutes. Once cranberries have popped and sauce is cooked down, add maple syrup to taste. My preference is a sweet-sour blend, not too sweet, just enough maple to take away the strong tart flavor-the amount of sweetener will depend on the type of apples you use, and how you like it. Serve any temperature you like.

CRAN-APPLE-PEAR SAUCE

Cran-Apple-Pear Sauce image

This is a very quick and easy cranberry sauce with apples and pears. Great with turkey, chicken, or pork, so it does not need to be reserved just for the holidays, although that is when I most make it. It makes a very large bowl full. Enjoy!

Provided by got2read

Categories     Dessert

Time 5m

Yield 12-15 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 3

2 (16 ounce) cans whole berry cranberry sauce
2 (15 ounce) cans sliced pears, drained
1 (21 ounce) can apple pie filling

Steps:

  • Open cans and dump each into a large bowl. Mix well, and chill. Yum!
  • Alternate idea: Using uncooked double pie crusts, spoon some into an unbaked pie crust that you've put into a pie pan, cover with the other pie crust and bake until the crust is browned. I have not done this yet, but anticipate it to be very good, I'm sure!
  • Also, the serving size is approximate. This is a VERY big bowl full, so depending on a person's portion preference, it would go farther than the 12-15, which is a conservative estimate.
