Slow Cooker Cider Applesauce (No Sugar Added) image

This spicy applesauce requires no added sugar because the apples and spices are sweet enough on their own. The smell of the apples cooking with the spices makes the entire house smell like apple cider!

5 pounds apples - peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
1 ½ tablespoons ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground cloves
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg

Steps:

  • Layer apples into a slow cooker. Sprinkle cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg over the apples.
  • Cook on High until apples are soft, 4 to 5 hours. Whisk apples vigorously for a chunkier-style applesauce. Puree with an immersion blender for a smoother applesauce.

1 pound juicy apples, such as ‘McIntosh,’ peeled, cored, and quartered
3/4 cup apple cider
1 tablespoon sugar, plus more if needed
Pinch of salt

Steps:

  • Bring apples and cider to a boil in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Cover pan; reduce heat. Simmer until apples are very soft, about 12 minutes. Remove lid; stir in sugar and salt.
  • Cook over medium-low heat until apples are broken up and most of the liquid is evaporated, about 15 minutes. Let cool slightly. Blend in a food processor until smooth. Add more sugar if desired.

12 apples (I love Gala)
1 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup apple cider
2 Tbsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground nutmeg
1 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
juice from half of a lemon (about 1 tsp)

Steps:

  • Peel and core the apples. Chop into thin slices.
  • Place apples into a large pot.
  • Stir in remaining ingredients, making sure apples slices are evenly coated.
  • Cook apples over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the apples are soft. Approximately 25-30 minutes. If the liquid cooks down too much, stir in additional apple cider, 1/4 cup at a time.
  • Using a potato masher, carefully mash the apples until they are no longer recognizable slices.
  • Stir the applesauce and continue cooking until desired consistency is reached.
  • Remove from heat and give the apples one final mash to break up any remaining larger chunks.
  • Cool and enjoy!

6 tablespoons heavy cream
Pinch kosher salt

Steps:

  • Reduce the apple cider in a saucepan over medium-high heat until it's thick and coats the back of a wooden spoon, 10 to 15 minutes. Stir in the cream and salt and cook until it reaches the desired consistency, an additional 2 to 3 minutes.
