Steps:
- Special equipment: a 12-ounce microwave-safe ceramic mug and a microwave oven
- Put the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt if using in a 12-ounce microwave-safe ceramic mug. Blend thoroughly with a fork. Add the milk, vegetable oil and vanilla if using and blend until smooth. Stir in the chocolate chips.
- Microwave on high for 90 seconds. Do not overcook or the cake will be dry. Let cool for 2 to 3 minutes before eating.

- To make a batch, whisk 1/2 cup each sugar and buttermilk, 1/4 cup vegetable oil, 1 egg and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla in a large bowl until smooth. Whisk in 1⁄3 cup flour, 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder, 1/8 teaspoon baking soda and a pinch of salt. Butter 4 small microwave-safe mugs and divide the batter among them. Microwave, one at a time, until a toothpick comes out clean, about 2 minutes. Make a slit in the center of each cake and pipe marshmallow cream into the slit. Top the cake with warmed chocolate frosting, then pipe white frosting squiggles on top.

- To prepare this amazing mug cake recipe, take a large mug and mix together vegetable oil, cocoa powder, baking soda, powdered sugar, whole wheat flour, milk, and vinegar.
- Put this mug in an oven and microwave for about one and a half minute on high speed. When done, remove it from the microwave. Spread chocolate chips on the mug cake, and then break the marshmallows in pieces and spread them too on the cake.
- Microwave once again the mug for about 30-35 seconds until chocolate and marshmallows are melted completely.
- When done, remove the cake from microwave and sprinkle a little powdered sugar on the cake, and let it cool slightly. Serve warm.
