Time 2h30m

Yield 8 to 10 servings

Number Of Ingredients 15

Nonstick cooking spray
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour (see Cook's Note)
1 1/4 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1 large egg plus 1 large egg yolk
1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1 pound strawberries (about 4 cups), hulled and thinly sliced, plus 5 whole strawberries, for decorating
1 ounce semisweet chocolate, chopped
1 ounce white chocolate, chopped
Store-bought whipped cream, for decorating

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 9-inch round cake pan with cooking spray.
  • Combine the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda, baking powder and salt in a large bowl. Add the egg, egg yolk, sour cream, oil, vanilla and 1/2 cup hot water and whisk until combined. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan. Scatter the sliced strawberries on top and gently press them into the batter.
  • Bake until a tester inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean, 55 to 60 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack and cool for 30 minutes.
  • Run a knife around the edge of the cake and invert onto a wire rack. Flip the cake back over and let cool completely, about 1 hour.
  • Once the cake has cooled, put the semisweet chocolate and the white chocolate in separate small microwave-safe bowls. Microwave the semisweet chocolate in 30-second intervals, stirring well with a rubber spatula between each, until completely melted and smooth, about 1 minute. Drizzle the cake with the melted chocolate. Repeat the melting and drizzling process with the white chocolate.
  • Garnish the top edge of the cake with the whipped cream. Cut the remaining 5 whole strawberries in half lengthwise and place the pieces cut-side down around the edge of the cake.

BROKEN HEART CHOCOLATE CAKE

Broken Heart Chocolate Cake image

For that person who feels nothing but daggers towards Valentine's Day, we gift you a cake that will crack you up. It's pretty cathartic to make, and delicious too.

Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Categories     dessert

Time 2h30m

Yield 8 to 10 servings

Number Of Ingredients 10

Nonstick cooking spray, for greasing the pan
All-purpose flour, for dusting the pan
One 15.25-ounce box chocolate cake mix (plus required ingredients)
2/3 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup light corn syrup
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
One 12-ounce box assorted mixed nuts and chews chocolates (about 24 pieces), such as Russell Stover
1/4 cup heavy cream
1 1/2 cups heavy cream
1/4 cup granulated sugar

Steps:

  • For the cake: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 9-inch heart-shaped cake pan with cooking spray and dust with flour, tapping out the excess.
  • Prepare the cake batter according to the package directions and pour into the prepared pan. Bake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, 40 to 45 minutes. Remove to a rack to cool for 10 minutes. Invert the cake pan onto a plate to remove the cake from the pan, then invert back onto the rack to let cool completely.
  • For the sugar glass: Line a baking sheet with parchment. Stir together the sugar, corn syrup and cream of tartar in a small microwave-safe bowl. Heat in the microwave in 2-minute intervals, stirring in between each, until the sugar starts to dissolve and the mixture turns a very light golden, about 4 minutes. Pour the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet and smooth with an offset spatula into a thin rectangle about 9 inches by 7 inches. Refrigerate until hardened completely, about 15 minutes. Use a meat mallet to break the sugar so that it resembles broken glass.
  • For the frosting: Melt the chocolates and heavy cream in a small saucepan over medium-low heat, stirring frequently, until smooth. Set aside to cool slightly.
  • For the whipped cream: Whip the heavy cream and sugar in a bowl with an electric mixer on medium speed until stiff peaks form.
  • Assemble the cake: Once the cake has cooled, use a serrated knife to shave off the top to make it flat (it domes as it bakes). Cut the cake in half horizontally to make 2 even layers, then, keeping the layers stacked, use a paring knife to cut jagged edges in a zigzag formation down the middle of the cake so that you have 2 halves of a broken heart.
  • Place the 2 bottom halves on a cake stand or plate so they are separated a little. Spread the whipped cream evenly over the bottom halves. Top with the 2 top halves and drizzle the melted frosting over the top so that it covers the top and drips down the sides of the cake. Decorate with the broken sugar glass and refrigerate until the chocolate has hardened, about 15 minutes. Slice and serve.

HIDDEN HEART STRAWBERRY BUNDT CAKE RECIPE BY TASTY

Hidden Heart Strawberry Bundt Cake Recipe by Tasty image

What a delightful and sweet surprise to find a heart in the middle of a strawberry bundt cake!

Provided by Frank Tiu

Categories     Desserts

Yield 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 19

2 loaves vanilla pound cake
16 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature
1 ½ cups sugar
½ teaspoon kosher salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 large eggs
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
½ cup whole milk
½ cup strawberry puree
nonstick cooking spray
¼ cup water
¼ cup sugar
½ tablespoon vanilla extract
1 cup white chocolate chip
½ cup heavy cream, hot
red sprinkle
pink heart sprinkle
heart shaped cookie cutter

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
  • On a cutting board, slice the ends off the pound cakes, then slice the cakes to the same thickness as the heart-shaped cookie cutter.
  • Cut the centers out of the slices of pound cake with the cookie cutter. Set the hearts aside and discard the scraps or save for another use.
  • In a large bowl, cream the butter, sugar, and salt with an electric hand mixer for 4 minutes, or until fluffy. Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a rubber spatula.
  • Add the vanilla and eggs, 1 at a time, beating to incorporate before adding the next. Scrape down the sides of the bowl again.
  • Sift in the flour and baking soda, then fold to incorporate a bit with a rubber spatula.
  • Continue mixing with the electric hand mixer, streaming in the milk and beating until just incorporated. Add the strawberry puree and beat to combine.
  • Grease a bundt pan with nonstick spray.
  • Add 2 cups of cake batter to the bundt pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Place the pound cake heart cut-outs around the pan, points up, submerging in the batter by about ½ inch (1 ¼ cm.) Add the rest of the batter, then gently tap the pan against the counter 2-3 times to release any air bubbles.
  • Bake for 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean. Let the cake cool for 30 minutes, then invert onto a wire rack set over a baking sheet.
  • Make the vanilla simple syrup: In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the water, sugar, and vanilla. Cook until the sugar is completely dissolved and the mixture reaches a gentle boil. Remove from the heat and set aside to cool.
  • Make the white chocolate ganache: In a medium bowl, pour the heavy cream over the white chocolate chips. Whisk until completely smooth.
  • Using a skewer, poke holes all over the cake, then brush with the vanilla simple syrup.
  • Pour the white chocolate ganache over the cake. Decorate with sprinkles.
  • Slice the cake to reveal the hidden hearts, then serve.
  • Enjoy!

CHOCOLATE COVERED STRAWBERRIES

Chocolate Covered Strawberries image

Why pay top dollar for chocolate-covered strawberries when you can easily make them at home -- super fresh and at a fraction of the cost? For the best finished look, try to find jumbo berries with stems.

Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Categories     dessert

Time 1h5m

Yield 1 pound chocolate covered strawberries

Number Of Ingredients 3

6 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
3 ounces white chocolate, chopped
1 pound strawberries with stems (about 20), washed and dried very well

Steps:

  • Put the semisweet and white chocolates into 2 separate heatproof medium bowls. Fill 2 medium saucepans with a couple inches of water and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Turn off the heat; set the bowls of chocolate over the water to melt. Stir until smooth. (Alternatively, melt the chocolates in a microwave at half power, for 1 minute, stir and then heat for another minute or until melted.)
  • Once the chocolates are melted and smooth, remove from the heat. Line a sheet pan with parchment or waxed paper. Holding the strawberry by the stem, dip the fruit into the dark chocolate, lift and twist slightly, letting any excess chocolate fall back into the bowl. Set strawberries on the parchment paper. Repeat with the rest of the strawberries. Dip a fork in the white chocolate and drizzle the white chocolate over the dipped strawberries.
  • Set the strawberries aside until the chocolate sets, about 30 minutes.

  • Enjoy!
