GLUTEN-FREE CHICKPEA CHAPATI - INDIAN FLAT BREAD



Gluten-Free Chickpea Chapati - Indian Flat Bread image

This is an awful recipe, turned out terribly. Completely INEDIBLE. I would not recommend bothering to try it.

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 cup chickpea flour
1/3 cup water
2 tablespoons arrowroot, powdered
1 tablespoon light vegetable oil
1/4 teaspoon salt
ghee or olive oil

Steps:

  • Mix all ingredients thoroughly. Roll into 1" balls and pat flat.
  • With a rolling pin, roll flattened dough balls into thin rounds.
  • Heat a lightly oiled frying pan (cast iron recommended) until very hot. Reduce heat to medium high and heat each round for 1-2 minutes on each side, until warmed and slightly browned. Brush with ghee or olive oil and serve hot (store extras in the refrigerator).

These are so tasty. Easy to make a and a great snack in a pinch. Serve with hot cocoa for a warm up on a cool fall or winter day

2 1/2 cup(s) all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tablespoon(s) baking powder
1 teaspoon(s) salt
3/4 cup(s) warm water
1 tablespoon(s) vegetable oil
1 tablespoon(s) nonfat dry milk powder
- vegetable oil for frying
- cinnamon sugar

Steps:

  • Combine flour, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl. In another bowl combine water, oil, and dry milk powder, stir into the flour mixture until the dough is smooth. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead 4 times into a smooth ball. Cover and let rest 10 minutes. Divide into 8 balls. Flatten with finger tips or roll out each ball to an 8-10 inch round. Make a small hole in the center of each round with your finger or the handle of a wooden spoon. Lightly flour rounds, stack and cover with a towel or plastic wrap.
  • Heat about 1 inch oil to 375 degrees in a large skillet. Gently place 1 bread round in the hot fat and cook until golden and crisp, 1-2 minutes on each side.
  • Drain on paper towels. Repeat with remaining dough. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar. Serve hot.

6 cups flour
4 teaspoon s baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup sugar
1 can evaporated milk
1 1/2 cups warm water
3 cups oil for frying

Steps:

  • Mix dry ingredients together and then add the liquid ingredients.
  • Heat oil in shallow pan till almost smoking.
  • Shape dough into round thin shape punch a hole in the middle of rounded dough. Cook in oil until lightly browned on both sides.
  • Let cool on paper towel to drain.
