Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees Combine 1/2 cup flour, apople, 1/3 cup sugar, 2 tablespoons butter, vanilla 1/2 teaspoon salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a large bowl, tossing well. Spoon into a large cast-iron dutch oven. Add 1/2 cup wateer. Combine remaining 1 cup flour, remaining 1/3 cup sugar, remaining 1/4 teaspoon salt, and baking powder in a medium bowl, cut in 1/4 cup butter with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add buttermilk, stir until just moist. Drop batter by tablespoonfuls over apple mixture. bake at 375 deprees for 1 hour or until bubly and browned. Serve warm. For a small gathering, half the recipe and bake in a 12-inch cast iron skillet.

1 pinch salt
1 box yellow cake mix
1 cup chopped pecan
½ cup butter, cut into slices

Steps:

  • Preheat your oven to 350ºF (180ºC).
  • In a cast-iron skillet over medium-low heat, add the apples, sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, spices, and salt.
  • Mix to combine and stir for 5-10 minutes until the mixture starts to thicken.
  • Let simmer for 5 minutes on low heat.
  • Sprinkle the box cake mix over the apple filling.
  • Add the nuts and evenly distribute the sliced butter over the top to ensure even baking.
  • Bake for 45 minutes to an hour, until the top is golden brown.
  • Serve warm with ice cream.
