PUFFY DOGS {PIGS IN A BLANKET}



Puffy Dogs {Pigs in a Blanket} image

Making your own homemade puffy dogs couldn't be easier. These copycat marathon puffy dogs are so much more delicious than the original frozen version. Cook these pigs in a blanket in your oven or air fryer. Perfect for game day, entertaining or an after school snack.

1 Frozen Puff Pastry Sheet, thawed
9 Mini Hotdogs / Cocktail Frankfurts
Egg, lightly whisked for egg wash
Sesame Seeds
Everything but the Bagel Seasoning
Poppy Seeds

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 180C / 350F and line a baking tray with baking paper or a silicone mat.
  • Cut puff pastry sheet into 9 even squares. Place a mini hotdog / cocktail frankfurt horizontally across a square of pastry, then roll the pastry to wrap around the hotdog. Place on a baking tray with the seam side down.
  • Brush pastry with egg wash and sprinkle over optional toppings if using. Repeat with remaining ingredients.
  • Bake for 15 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden. Serve immediately with your favourite sauce.
  • Cut puff pastry sheet into 9 even squares. Place a mini hotdog / cocktail frankfurt horizontally across a square of pastry, then roll the pastry to wrap around the hotdog, finishing with the seam side down.
  • Brush pastry with egg wash and sprinkle over optional toppings if using. Repeat with remaining ingredients.
  • Place the puffy dogs in the air fryer basket and cook on 200C / 390F for 7-10 minutes, until the pastry is puffed and golden. Serve immediately with your favourite sauce.

This is a super easy snack, or a great recipe to make for a party. With the flavor of the Mustard, and the taste of the crunchy bacon all on top of a chili cheese wiener rolled up into a puff pastry is sure to please any ones taste buds!

2 sheet(s) puff pastry sheet, thawed
8 - chili cheese wieners
1/3 cup(s) onion, diced
1 teaspoon(s) seasoning salt
1 teaspoon(s) pepper
7 slice(s) precooked bacon
- smoky sweet onion mustarden
1/2 cup(s) mozzarella cheese
1 tablespoon(s) olive oil

Steps:

  • Cut your each Wiener into 3 halves. Cook in a skillet until brown all sides.
  • Cook precook Bacon according to package.
  • Toss onion with he seasoning salt an pepper. Saute Onion in Olive Oil until caramelized.
  • Cut each sheet of puff pastry into nine squares.
  • Add a Wiener to each square.
  • Top each Wiener with Smoky Sweet Onion Mustard.
  • Add some onion to top of each Wiener.
  • Take a piece of bacon and break tiny pieces on top f each Wiener.
  • Sprinkle Mozzarella Cheese on top each Wiener.
  • Wrap each square around the wiener fold in sides to seal.
  • Place each puff on a lightly sprayed cookie sheet. Place in a 350 degree oven, and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup wheat germ
1/2 cup non-fat powdered milk
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon brown sugar
8 tablespoons bacon drippings or 8 tablespoons margarine
1 egg, beaten
2 tablespoons beef broth or 2 tablespoons chicken broth
cheese, grated (optional)
1/2 cup ice water (more if necessary)

Steps:

  • In large bowl or food processor container, combine flour, wheat germ, dry milk, salt, garlic powder and brown sugar.
  • Cut in, or process, meat, bacon drippings or margarine into mixture, until mixture is crumbly.
  • Add egg and broth--through feeder tube with machine running, if a processor is used--and mix thoroughly.
  • Add crumbled bacon or grated cheese if desired.
  • Add ice water as needed to form mixture into a ball.
  • If processor is used, add water through feeder tube with machine running, just as mixture leaves the side of the bowl and starts forming a ball on metal blades.
  • Pat or roll out dough on floured surface to 1/2 inch thickness.
  • Cut into bone biscuit shapes (cutters are available in many kitchen stores) or any cookie shape.
  • Place on cookie sheet lined with foil and oiled lightly.
  • Bake at 350F 30 minutes, or until quite hard and brown at the edges.
