Smoothies are a creamy treat and will get you going in the morning, too. I like to combine berries, yogurt, orange juice and honey. -Valerie Belley, St. Louis, Missouri

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 cup orange juice
1 cup plain yogurt
2 to 3 tablespoons honey
1-1/2 cups fresh or frozen blackberries
1/2 cup frozen unsweetened mixed berries
Additional blackberries and yogurt, optional

Steps:

  • In a blender, combine the first five ingredients; cover and process for about 15 seconds or until smooth. Pour into chilled glasses; serve immediately. Top with additional blackberries and yogurt if desired.

Steps:

  • Add the ice cream, blackberries, heavy cream and milk to the pitcher of a blender, and blend until smooth. Add more milk for a thinner consistency.

In spring and summer when the weather is warmer and you're cooking outdoors more often, you can put the sugared blackberries in a metal bowl and heat them right on your outdoor grill.

1 pt blackberries
2 Tbsp sugar (or more if needed, depending on berry sweetness)
1 pt vanilla ice cream (or 1 1/2 pints for thicker shakes)
6 oz pomegranate juice
1 1/4 c milk
12 to 16 fresh blackberries (for garnish)

Steps:

  • 1. Cook the blackberries and sugar in a small saucepan over high heat until the sugar has dissolved and the berries are mushy.
  • 2. Put the cooked berries, ice cream, pomegranate juice and milk in a blender and puree for a few seconds or until thick and thoroughly blended.
  • 3. Divide among 4 tall parfait glasses, garnish each glass with a few berries, and serve with a straw.

1 cup blackberry
2 tablespoons sugar
4 scoops vanilla ice cream, about 1 1/2 cups total
1/2 cup milk

Steps:

  • Place the ice cubes in a blender and process to crush.
  • Set aside 4 of the blackberries and add the remaining berries to the blender along with the sugar.
  • Puree until smooth.
  • Add the ice cream and milk, and process until smooth or to the desired consistency.
  • Pour into 2 tall glasses and garnish with the reserved berries.

  • Reserve 8 blackberries from 1 pint. Cook the rest of the berries with 2 tablespoons cane sugar in a saucepan over high heat until the berries are just starting to break down. Transfer to a bowl and let sit in another bowl of ice water to chill. Blend the cooled berries, 1 pint vanilla ice cream, 12 ounces pomegranate juice and 1 cup milk until thick and creamy. Pour into tall glasses and top with the reserved berries.

I first saw this prepared on Bobby Flay's Grill It! Show a few years ago. And I recently stumbled across the copy of the recipe that I printed immediately after watching that episode. In warmer weather when you're cooking outdoors more often, you can do as Bobby Flay did and put the sugared blackberries in a metal bowl and heat them right on your outdoor grill.
