1 cup chocolate syrup
2 pints vanilla ice cream
2 quarts skim milk
1 tray ice cubes

Steps:

In a blender, for each shake, combine 3 squirts of chocolate syrup (about 1/4 cup) 1/2 pint vanilla ice cream (about 2 to 3 scoops), 2 cups skim milk and 4 ice cubes. Blend on high until smooth and icy. Serve with straws in soda fountain or other tall glass.

2 pints good-quality vanilla ice cream, slightly softened (recommended: Haagen-Dazs)
3 to 4 tablespoons malt powder
6 ounces chocolate sauce, divided
Whipped cream, for garnish
Shaved bittersweet chocolate, for garnish

Steps:

Place 1 1/2 pints of ice cream, malt powder, and 4 ounces chocolate sauce in a blender and blend until smooth. Pour shakes into 2 tall glasses, leaving a little room at the top. Place an extra scoop of ice cream on top of each shake and drizzle the remaining 2 ounces chocolate sauce over. Garnish with a large dollop of whipped cream and some chocolate shavings. Serve immediately.

A classic NYC black and white shake recipe from Rachael Ray (a former fountain girl in New York). The ingredient list didn't offer the word "tray" for quantity, so I listed the ice cubes as "sheets" - You will need one filled ice cube tray. Enjoy!

Steps:

1. For each shake, combine 3 squirts of chocolate syrup (about 1/4 cup), 1/2 pint vanilla ice cream (3 scoops), 2 cups skim milk and 4 ice cubes into a blender. Blend on high until smooth and icy. Serve in a tall glass with a cute straw. Enjoy!

11 ounces premium vanilla ice cream (about 1 3/4 packed cups)

Steps:

Combine the milk and chocolate sauce in a blender and blend for 5 seconds. Add the ice cream and blend until smooth, about 10 seconds. Serve immediately.
