DRIVING BY NUMBERS: CANADA'S 10 BEST-SELLING SUVS IN 2021
From driving.ca
- Toyota RAV4: 61,934, up 7 per cent. With little competition for the throne among SUVs, Toyota can now focus on moving the RAV4 up the overall vehicle leaderboard in Canada.
- Honda CR-V: 50,935, up 14 per cent. Surely it’s no coincidence that both of Canada’s top-selling SUVs are Canadian-made. (Canada’s 24-time best-selling car, the Honda Civic, is Ontario-assembled, as well.)
- Hyundai Kona: 31,101, up 17 per cent. Tops in its subcompact segment, the Hyundai Kona has torn up the sales charts ever since its introduction in 2018.
- Nissan Rogue: 29,926, up 15 per cent. If, in a decade or two, we examine a perfectly healthy Nissan brand whilst remembering the devastating fiscal reports from 2019 and 2020, we’re likely to view the launch of the third-generation Rogue as the turning point for Nissan.
- Mazda CX-5: 26,571, up 7 per cent. Whether Mazda can continue to grow its CX-5 sales once the upmarket and more outdoorsy CX-50 lands at dealers in May remains to be seen.
- Ford Escape: 25,960, up 9 per cent. Gone are the days when the Ford Escape was automatically Canada’s top-selling SUV. (Its long leadership streak came to an end in 2015.)
- Hyundai Tucson: 25,487, up 8 per cent. Despite its wild style, the Hyundai Tucson is now somewhat overshadowed by its smaller sibling, the Kona. But that’s not to suggest the Tucson isn’t pumping out major volume.
- Subaru Crosstrek: 23,342, up 35 per cent. During a year in which sales of Subaru’s other small utility vehicle tanked — the Forester was down 12 per cent — Crosstrek volume was an essential component of Subaru Canada’s strategy.
- Jeep Wrangler: 20,026, down 6 per cent. The Jeep Wrangler is the only body-on-frame SUV on this list of Canada’s most popular utility vehicles, the only SUV with a low-range-equipped four-wheel-drive system, and most definitely the only vehicle on the list with a fully removable top.
- Toyota Highlander: 19,885, up 46 per cent. 10th among SUVs and crossovers overall, the Toyota Highlander is first among three-row utility vehicles in Canada.
10 MOST POPULAR SUVS IN CANADA SO FAR IN 2021 - KELLEY …
From kbb.ca
- Toyota RAV4/37,908 sold/Sales up 84.1% As this list proves, Canadians love SUVs. And so far, in 2021, the RAV4 is our favourite. And deservedly so.
- Honda CR-V/26,716 sold/Sales up 51.3% The 2021 Honda CR-V is one of the best compact SUVs you can buy. And Canadians seem to agree. Ingredients for the FWD or AWD Honda’s recipe for success include a decades-long history of reliability, easy and efficient driving manners, practicality, and among the roomiest interiors in its class.
- Nissan Rogue/17,462 sold/Sales up 77.2% As Nissan Canada’s best-selling model, the Rogue competes in the hyper-competitive compact SUV segment with other popular models like the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4.
- Hyundai Kona/15,715 sold/Sales up 67.0% Small SUVs happen to be what many people want to drive these days. As Canada’s most popular sub-compact SUV, the 2021 Hyundai Kona leads this new vehicle segment.
- Mazda CX-5/14,127 sold/Sales up 53.4% If you need the practicality of a compact SUV but still enjoy clipping apexes like you did when you were single and had a Miata, the 2021 Mazda CX-5 is one of the sportiest compact SUVs available.
- Hyundai Tucson/13,460 sold/Sales up 48.8% One size up from the more popular sub-compact Kona, the 2022 Hyundai Tucson compact SUV is all-new and takes its styling, technology, and connectivity far beyond where it once was.
- Ford Escape/12,358 sold/Sales up 21.1% Completely redesigned for the 2020 model year, the Ford Escape compact SUV plows into 2021 with no significant changes.
- Subaru Crosstrek/10,872 sold/Sales up 113.8% With standard AWD and an elevated ride height, the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek blurs the distinction between a small SUV and the economical 5-passenger Impreza compact hatchback it is based upon.
- Toyota Highlander/10,403 sold/Sales up 107.6% Canada's most popular mid-size 3-row SUV, the 2021 Toyota Highlander, is in the 2nd year of its 4th generation.
- Nissan Kicks/9,628 sold/Sales up 82.4%** The first of a pair of Nissan SUVs to make our top 10 list, the 2021 Nissan Kicks is the automaker's smallest SUV, and it gets both a styling refresh and new equipment this year.
