APPLE STREUSEL BARS
I made these delicious bars for a friend's birthday once and now he requests them every year! They have a tasty tartness with a cinnamony kick. Be sure to chop the apples into small cubes -if the apple pieces are too big the bars will fall apart. -Danielle Millwer, Tonawanda, New York

- Preheat oven to 350°. Mix flour, cracker crumbs, oats, 1/2 cup brown sugar and sugar. Stir in butter. Reserve 1 cup crumb mixture for topping. Press remaining mixture onto bottom of a greased 13x9-in. pan. Bake until set, 8-10 minutes. Cool on a wire rack., Mix apples, spices and remaining brown sugar. Spread over crust; sprinkle with reserved topping. Bake until apples are tender, 30-35 minutes. Cool completely in pan on a wire rack., Mix confectioners' sugar and milk; drizzle over top. Cut into bars.

- In a large bowl, combine 2-1/2 cups flour, oats, sugar, baking powder and cinnamon. Beat in butter just until moistened. Set aside 2 cups for topping. , Pat remaining oat mixture into a greased 13-in. x 9-in. baking pan. Bake at 375° for 15 minutes., In a large bowl, toss apples with remaining flour; stir in the preserves. Spread over hot crust to within 1/2 in. of edges. Combine nuts and reserved oat mixture; sprinkle over fruit mixture. , Bake 30-35 minutes longer or until lightly browned. Cool completely on a wire rack. Cut into bars.

This recipe is adapted from Paula Deen's recipe. Usually I am not a fan of her recipes but this one looked too good to pass up :) It combines 2 of my favorite desserts: cheesecake and apple crumble?

Steps:
- 1. base part: In a medium bowl, combine flour and brown sugar. Cut in butter with a pastry blender until mixture is crumbly. Press evenly into a 13x9-inch baking pan lined with heavy-duty aluminum foil. Bake 15 minutes, or until lightly browned.
- 2. Cheesecake part: In a large bowl, beat cream cheese with an electric mixer at medium speed until smooth. Beat in 1/2 cup sugar, eggs, and vanilla until smooth. Pour over warm crust.
- 3. Preparing apples: In a small bowl, stir together chopped apples, 2 tablespoons sugar and cinnamon. Top cheesecake part with chopped apples.
- 4. Streusel part In a small bowl, combine all ingredients and sprinkle evenly over apples. Bake 30 minutes, or until filling is set (until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean)
