These classic burgers are a great main dish option at your big Fourth of July party, or at any other backyard barbecue or cookout.

2 slice white bread
1/4 c. whole milk
2 lb. ground meat
1 small onion
1 tomato
1/2 head iceberg lettuce
6 slice good deli-style American cheese
6 Hamburger buns
Salt and pepper (or some sort of spice mix like Tony Chachere's)

Steps:

  • Soak the torn white bread in the milk. Mix the ground meat and soaked bread together and form into 6 hamburger patties.
  • Prepare a tray for the grill of sliced onion, lettuce, tomato, and cheese.
  • Grill the patties on a hot grill for about 4 minutes on each side. Season each side of the hamburger with salt and pepper, or some Tony Chachere's seasoning.
  • Toast the buns. When the meat is almost finished, lay a piece of cheese on each patty and let the cheese melt. Assemble your hamburgers as you like with the lettuce, tomato, and onion. We do a lot of camping and outdoor cooking. This all-American, homemade hamburger recipe is on our menu more than any other food. -Diane Hixon, Niceville, Florida

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 pound ground beef
2 tablespoons finely chopped onion
2 tablespoons chili sauce
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons prepared mustard
4 slices American cheese or cheddar cheese, halved diagonally
2 slices Swiss cheese, halved diagonally
4 hamburger buns, split and toasted
Optional: Lettuce leaves, sliced tomato, sliced onion, cooked bacon strips, ketchup and mustard

Steps:

  • Combine first 5 ingredients, mixing lightly but thoroughly. Shape into 4 patties. Grill burgers, covered, on an oiled rack over medium direct heat until a thermometer reads 160° and juices run clear, about 6 minutes on each side., During the last minute of cooking, top each patty with 2 triangles American cheese and 1 triangle Swiss cheese. Serve on buns. As desired, top with lettuce, tomato, onion, bacon, ketchup and mustard.

Here's what you need: ground beef, kosher salt, freshly ground black pepper, vegetable oil, cheese, hamburger buns, topping of your choice

12 oz ground beef
kosher salt, to taste
freshly ground black pepper
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
2 slices cheese, such as swiss, cheddar, or american, optional
2 hamburger buns
topping of your choice, for serving

Steps:

  • Divide the beef into 2 patties, each about ¾-inch (2 cm) thick and 3 ½ inches (9 cm) in diameter. Transfer the patties to a plate or a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  • Remove the patties from the fridge and season on both sides with salt and pepper.
  • Heat a large cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. Add the oil to the pan and swirl to evenly coat. Place the patties in the skillet and cook, undisturbed, on the first side for 5 minutes, until a brown crust forms.
  • Flip the patties, top each with a slice of cheese (optional), and cook, undisturbed, until the patties are browned on the other side, the cheese is melted, and the meat is cooked through, about 5 minutes more for medium-well doneness.
  • Remove the patties from the pan and transfer to a clean cutting board. Let rest for about 5 minutes.
  • Place the burger patties on buns and serve with your favorite toppings and sauces.
  • Enjoy!

Been making 1/4 pound burgers like this forever, and dont think its ever been posted here. One of our all-time favorites on the summer grill! We also love these with a slice of cooked bacon for a bacon cheeseburger.

2 lbs 85% lean ground beef
4 tablespoons dry onion soup mix (1 envelope)
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
8 slices American cheese
1/4 cup barbecue sauce
8 buns
lettuce, for topping
pickle, sliced for topping
tomatoes, sliced for topping
cooked bacon (optional)

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine beef, soup mix and Worcestershire sauce.
  • Mix just until blended dont overwork the meat.
  • Shape into eight patties.
  • Grill over medium coals to desired doneness or until no longer pink in the center and a minimum temperature of 160 degrees, brushing frequently with barbecue sauce.
  • Top with cheese; continue grilling until cheese is melted.
  • For each serving; fill bun with lettuce, pickle slices, tomato and hamburger patty.

50 g smoked streaky bacon, chopped finely
10 ml capers, chopped finely
3 pinches chili powder
10 ml caster sugar
salt

Steps:

  • Put the beef, bacon, capers, chilli powder and sugar in a bowl and mix together thoroughly, season with salt to taste. Divide the mixture into four and pat firmly into hamburgers approximately 1 cm thick. Smear all over with oil. Heat the grill to its hottest and put the hamburgers high up under it. 1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons roasted red pepper puree
2 teaspoons adobo sauce
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
Canola oil, for brushing
1 1/2 pounds ground chuck (80 percent lean)
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
4 sesame seed buns, split
8 slices American cheese
Yellow mustard, for serving
Shredded iceberg lettuce, for serving

Steps:

  • Heat a gas or charcoal grill to high heat. Brush the grill grates with oil.
  • For the fry sauce: Combine the mayonnaise, roasted red pepper puree and adobo sauce in a small bowl and stir together until smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Use right away or cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow flavors to meld.
  • For the burgers: Divide the meat into 4 equal portions (about 6 ounces each). Shape each portion with your hands into a round patty, about 3/4 inches thick. Use your thumb to make a divot in the center of each burger. Sprinkle both sides of each burger with salt and pepper.
  • Grill, covered, until golden brown and slightly charred on the first side, about 3 minutes. Flip the burgers and cook until golden brown and slightly charred on the second side, about 4 minutes for medium.

  • Spread some yellow mustard on the bottom buns and spread some of the fry sauce on the top buns. Place the burgers on the bottom buns. Top with the shredded lettuce and the top buns and serve immediately.
