250 g firm tofu, drained
1 tablespoon rapeseed oil
2 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon Chinese five spice powder
1 tablespoon runny honey
2 tablespoons sesame seeds, lightly toasted

Steps:

  • Place the tofu on a plate and pat dry with kitchen paper. Slice into 1cm thick slices.
  • Heat the rapeseed oil in a non stick frying pan, once oil is hot add the tofu and cook over a medium heat for 5-8minutes either side or until tofu is golden brown.
  • Place the soy sauce, sesame oil, 5 spice powder and honey in a large bowl. Mix well and toss.
  • in the warm tofu. Sprinkle over the sesame seeds.
  • Serve with steamed tender stem broccoli or stir fried vegetables.

1 (14-to 18-ounces) package soft tofu (not silken)
1 teaspoon chopped garlic
1/4 cup chopped scallion
2 teaspoons sesame seeds, toasted and crushed with side of a heavy knife
3 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon Asian sesame oil
1 teaspoon coarse Korean hot red-pepper flakes
1/2 teaspoon sugar

Steps:

  • Carefully rinse tofu, then cover with cold water in a medium saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium-high heat, then keep warm, covered, over very low heat.
  • Meanwhile, mince and mash garlic to a paste with a pinch of salt. Stir together with remaining ingredients (except tofu).
  • Just before serving, carefully lift tofu from saucepan with a large spatula and drain on paper towels. Gently pat dry, then transfer to a small plate. Spoon some sauce over tofu and serve warm. Serve remaining sauce on the side.

3 green onions, chopped
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds
1 ½ teaspoons Korean chile pepper powder, or to taste
1 teaspoon white sugar
½ teaspoon toasted Asian sesame oil
1 ½ cups steamed Japanese rice
½ head of romaine lettuce (heart only), torn into bite-size pieces
½ cucumber - peeled, seeded, and chopped
1 (12 ounce) package tofu, sliced

Steps:

  • Mix green onions, soy sauce, sesame seeds, Korean red pepper powder, sugar, and sesame oil together in a bowl until evenly combined.
  • Place rice in a serving bowl. Toss lettuce and cucumber together and place onto rice. Arrange tofu over lettuce and cucumber. Drizzle sesame mixture over tofu to taste.

Spicy garlic sauce is a staple ingredient in many Vietnamese dishes and creates a spicy-sweet combination with the brown sugar.

1 (10 ounce) package fried tofu
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 onion, chopped
1 medium red bell pepper, chopped
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon soy sauce
2 teaspoons chili-garlic sauce, or more to taste
2 green onions, chopped

Steps:

  • Drain tofu, rinse, and pat dry. Cut into squares.
  • Heat sesame oil in a wok over medium heat. Add onion and cook for 2 minutes. Add red pepper and stir-fry for 2 minutes. Stir in tofu and cook for 2 minutes. Stir in brown sugar, soy sauce, and chili-garlic sauce. Mix together and cook for 3 minutes. Adjust seasoning to taste. Sprinkle with green onions before serving.
