Number Of Ingredients 8

16 cups (1 gallon) apple cider
1/4 cup light brown sugar
1 teaspoon allspice
Pinch grated nutmeg
2 teaspoons whole cloves

Cinnamon sticks, for garnish
2 cups bourbon, optional

Steps:

  • In a large pot over medium heat, add the apple cider. Stir in the brown sugar, allspice and nutmeg until the sugar is dissolved and bring to a low boil.
  • Stick the pointy ends of the cloves into the orange so that just the buds of the cloves are visible. The entire orange should be covered with the cloves.
  • Add the orange to the cider and reduce the heat to simmer. Cover and continue cooking for 20 minutes.
  • Serve in warm mugs with a cinnamon stick garnish. For adults, add bourbon to the cider.

You’ll need a cinnamon stick (at this point you should probably have a collection of cinnamon sticks lying around), orange juice, cloves, star anise and bourbon.

  • Mulled Cider. This is one of those times when you can use your slow cooker for more than tough cuts of meat. You can create a delicious slow-cooker mulled cider with orange, ginger, cinnamon sticks, cloves and fresh apple cider.
  • Apple Cider Mule. This is the perfect opportunity to break out those copper mugs you got as a gift in the office game of White Elephant a few years ago.
  • Cider Mimosa. A Fall brunch isn’t complete without apple cider mimosas, bubbly and sweet with champagne, apple cider and apple slices. They’re simple to make and they’ll give your taste buds a break from the usual orange juice.
  • Apple Cider Slushie. As long as you’re all bundled up, an icy drink won’t hurt you, especially when the heat is cranked and you have your fuzzy socks ready to go.
  • Hot Apple Cider Buttered Rum. Hot Buttered Rum sounds like a fantasized Hallmark cocktail that may be way too intimidating to whip up in real life. In reality, it’s pretty easy.
