These tasty open faced Spam burgers are simple to make. Few ingredients, quick cooking time and great taste make them a winner.

1 (12 ounce) container fully cooked luncheon meat (e.g. Spam)
4 hard-cooked eggs
4 ounces Cheddar cheese, cubed
1 medium onion, chopped
3 tablespoons mayonnaise
6 slices bacon, cut in half
6 hamburger buns, split

Steps:

  • Preheat your oven's broiler.
  • Combine the lunch meat, eggs, cheese and onion in a food processor, or run them through a grinder. Once everything is minced, stir in enough of the mayonnaise to hold it together. Spoon equal amounts of the mixture onto open buns, and place two pieces of bacon on top of each one.
  • Broil a few inches from the heat for 5 to 8 minutes, or until the bacon is crisp. Watch carefully so the burgers do not burn.

1 can(s) spam classic, ground
2 c spaghetti sauce
8 oz shredded cheddar cheese
1/4 tsp parsley
1/8 tsp dried orango leaves
4 hamburger buns, split
dash(es) salt and pepper

Steps:

  • 1. In a skillet cook beef until browned. Season with salt and pepper. Add spam, spaghetti sauce, cheese, parsley and oregano, mix well. Heat broiler. Spread spam mixture over cut sides of bun halves. Broil until browned and cheese is melted.

We are big fans of pizza burgers that some greasy spoons serve, but it is so hard to find a good one so I decided to come up with my own. Here is a real simple recipe that puts smiles on the faces of my family.

1 pound ground beef
1 tablespoon tomato paste
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon white sugar
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
½ teaspoon ground black pepper
¼ teaspoon dried oregano
4 slices mozzarella cheese
4 fresh hamburger buns

Steps:

  • Combine beef, tomato paste, salt, sugar, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, pepper, and oregano in a large bowl. Mix thoroughly. Cover and refrigerate to let flavors marry, about 4 hours.
  • Form beef mixture into 8 thin patties. Place 1 slice of mozzarella cheese on each of 4 patties; leave at least a 1/2-inch border, breaking up the cheese as needed. Place remaining patties on top and pinch edges to seal in the cheese.
  • Heat a skillet over medium-low heat. Fry burgers until browned and centers reach 165 degrees F (74 degrees C), 6 to 7 minutes per side. Serve on buns.

2 pounds ground beef
1 (12 ounce) container fully cooked luncheon meat (e.g. Spam), cubed
12 ounces processed cheese food, cubed
2 small onions, chopped
1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed tomato soup
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
½ teaspoon garlic salt
1 ½ teaspoons dried oregano
8 hamburger buns, split

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until evenly browned, stirring to crumble. Drain fat, and set aside.
  • Process the luncheon meat, cheese and onion in a food processor or run through a grinder until finely chopped. Transfer to a large bowl. Stir in the browned beef, tomato soup, tomato paste, garlic salt, and oregano until well blended. Spread a couple of spoonfuls of the meat mixture onto each bun half, and place them on a baking sheet.
  • Bake for 10 to 15 minutes in the preheated oven, until the meat is hot and the bun is crisp.

1-1/2 pounds ground beef
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 can (15 ounces) pizza sauce
1 can (4 ounces) mushroom stems and pieces, drained
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
6 hamburger buns, split and toasted
1-1/2 cups shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, cook beef and onion over medium heat until the meat is no longer pink, 3-5 minutes, breaking into crumbles. Drain. Stir in the pizza sauce, mushrooms, sugar and oregano; mix well. Spoon onto buns; sprinkle with mozzarella cheese. , Place on ungreased baking sheets. Broil 4 in. from the heat until cheese is melted, 2 minutes. , To freeze for quick lunches later, place the split and toasted buns on a baking sheet. Spoon the meat mixture onto buns; freeze for 1 hour. Transfer to freezer-safe airtight containers., To use frozen burgers: Thaw completely in the refrigerator. Sprinkle with cheese.   • Grate the spam.
  • Brown the red meats and let cool.

1 lb hamburger browned, drained and cooled
1 can(s) spam, cubed in small cubes
1 can(s) pizza sauce
1 c mozzarella cheese
1/2 tsp oregano (or pizza seasoning)
1 dozen hamburger buns

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Separate one dozen hamburger buns and place on jelly roll pan so they are open faced.
  • 2. Mix hamburger, spam, pizza sauce and mozzarella. Add seasoning.
  • 3. By spoonfuls, top each half of bun with mixture. Bake at 400 degrees for 12-15 minutes or when cheese is melted and buns start to turn golden brown.

cooking spray
1 tablespoon oil
1 lb 80% lean ground beef
½ onion, finely chopped
½ cup panko breadcrumbs
1 egg
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
1 cup beef gravy, or demi-glace
3 eggs, fried
⅓ cup green onion, thinly sliced

Steps:

  • Press ⅓ cup (75 g) of rice into the bottom of a greased 1 cup measure, then remove. Repeat with the rice until you have 6 buns.
  • In a pan over medium-high heat, fry the buns until lightly browned on both sides.
  • Set aside on a paper towel.
  • Mix together the the patty ingredients until evenly combined.
  • Form the beef into 3 patties.
  • Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
  • Cook the burgers for 3 minutes on the first side, flip, then cook for 6 more minutes.
  • Assemble the burgers with the rice buns, beef gravy, egg, and green onions. scallions.

1 lb hamburger
6 ounces luncheon meat, grated (Spam)
2 cups spaghetti sauce (use Ragu)
2 cups grated mozzarella cheese (about 1/2 pound) or 2 cups American cheese (about 1/2 pound)
1 tablespoon dried parsley
1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
12 plain hamburger buns
1 cup grated cheese, for topping burgers before baking (I like using a combination of American and Mozzarella cheese)

Steps:

  • Brown hamburger; drain fat. Add grated luncheon meat; saute 1-2 minutes. Stir in rest of ingredients till combined and the cheese has completely melted. Place all hamburger bun halves onto cookie sheets. Add desired amount of sauce onto each bun and sprinkle with the grated American and mozzarella cheeses. Bake in a 425 degree oven for 10 minutes, or till heated through and cheese is melted and bubbly. Serve immediately.
