These spicy baked beans make the perfect accompaniment to our Southwestern-style Turkey-Pork Burgers.

1 tablespoon olive oil
1 medium onion, diced
4 cloves garlic, minced
4 teaspoons mustard powder
2 1/2 teaspoons chili powder
2 teaspoons ground cumin
1 can (14 1/2 ounces) whole tomatoes, with juice
1/4 to 1/3 cup packed light-brown sugar
4 cans (14 1/2 ounces each) pinto beans, drained and rinsed
1 tablespoon cider vinegar
Salt and pepper

Steps:

  • In a 5-quart saucepan, heat oil over medium-high. Cook onion until translucent, stirring often, 3 minutes. Add garlic, mustard and chili powders, cumin, tomatoes, brown sugar, beans, and 3 cups water.
  • Bring to a boil; reduce heat to medium-low. Cover; simmer, stirring occasionally, 50 minutes. Uncover; cook until thick, about 10 minutes more. Stir in vinegar; season with salt and pepper.

1 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
1 jalapeno pepper, chopped
2 garlic cloves, chopped
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 (15 ounce) cans pinto beans, rinsed and drained
1/2 cup beer
1/4 cup sliced sun-dried tomato, softened
1/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
1 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
1 bay leaf
1/2 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • Saute onion, bell pepper, chili and garlic in oil in large skillet until tender, about 8 minutes.
  • Combine onion mixture and remaining ingredients in 1 1/2 quart casserole.
  • Bake at 350 degrees, covered, 30 minutes.
  • Uncover and bake 15-20 minutes or until liquid is nearly absorbed.
  • Discard bay leaf.

2/3 cup barbecue sauce
2/3 cup brown sugar, packed
5 hot dogs, halved lengthwiseand sliced
3 tablespoons of minced onions, dried
2 (16 ounce) cans pork and beans, drained
1 (15 1/2 ounce) can chili beans, drained
1 (15 ounce) can lima beans, rinsed and drained

Steps:

  • Combine your 1st five ingredients in a bowl; mix well.
  • Stir in your beansand pour into a 2-qt baking dish (ungreased).
  • Bake at 375 degrees for 35-40 minutes or until it becomes bubbly (uncovered).

1/4 cup ketchup
1 1/2 cups Original Bisquick™ mix
1/2 cup yellow cornmeal
2/3 cup milk
1 tablespoon butter or margarine, softened
4 medium green onions, sliced (1/4 cup)

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 425°F. In 2-quart saucepan, heat beans, tomatoes, salsa and ketchup to boiling, stirring occasionally; remove from heat. Pour into ungreased 2-quart casserole.
  • In medium bowl, stir remaining ingredients until soft dough forms; beat 20 strokes. Drop dough by spoonfuls onto bean mixture; spread to edge of casserole.
  • Bake uncovered 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown.

1 red onion, diced

1 cup beer, or more to taste
1 cup barbeque sauce
1 cup brown sugar
¼ cup molasses
6 cups cooked pinto beans
1 pinch garlic salt, or to taste
cracked black pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with 1 tablespoon butter.
  • Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Saute onion and garlic in hot oil until onion begins to soften, 5 to 7 minutes. Add bacon, bell pepper, and jalapeno peppers; cook and stir until bacon is browned, 7 to 10 minutes more.
  • Stir beer, barbeque sauce, brown sugar, and molasses together in a large bowl; add pinto beans and bacon mixture. Season with garlic salt and black pepper. Pour beans mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until bubbling and browned, about 45 minutes.

1/4 cup finely chopped sweet red pepper
5 teaspoons canola oil, divided
1 garlic clove, minced
1 can (16 ounces) fat-free refried beans
3/4 cup dry bread crumbs
1 can (4 ounces) chopped green chilies, drained
2 tablespoons minced fresh cilantro
1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/3 cup cornmeal
6 hamburger buns, split
1/2 cup guacamole
1/2 cup salsa

Steps:

  • In a large nonstick skillet, saute onion and red pepper in 1-1/2 teaspoons oil until tender. Add garlic; cook 1 minute longer. , In a large bowl, combine the refried beans, bread crumbs, chilies, cilantro, cumin, pepper and onion mixture; mix well. Shape into six patties; coat in cornmeal. , In the same skillet, cook patties in batches in remaining oil over medium-high heat for 2-3 minutes on each side or until lightly browned. , Place patties on bun bottoms (save bun tops for another use). 1 tablespoon white vinegar
4 slices bacon, cooked and cut into 1-inch pieces
3 -4 chipotle chiles in adobo, seeded and chopped
2 tablespoons adobo sauce (from the canned chipotles)
1 large onion, chopped
3 -4 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 cup ketchup
1 (12 ounce) can beer
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon mustard
1 teaspoon ground cumin
2 1/2 cups water

Steps:

  • Add beans to a saucepan; add enough water to cover; add in the vinegar; soak overnight.
  • Drain and rinse beans.
  • Add beans and remaining ingredients to a slow cooker; stir to combine.
  • Cover and cook on HIGH for 4 hours.
  • Stir, then continue cooking on LOW for 3-4 more hours or until the beans are tender.
