How To Make Sun Tea image

A classic summertime drink: iced tea brewed by the sun and flavored with fresh mint and orange slices.

Provided by Deanna Segrave-Daly

Number Of Ingredients 4

10 - 12 tea bags (depending on how strong you like your iced tea)
3 medium oranges, sliced
Bunch of fresh mint leaves
1 gallon water

Steps:

  • Place the tea bags, orange slices and mint in bottom of a large pitcher. Slowly fill with water.
  • Cover pitcher with plastic wrap or lid and place outside for at least 4 hours on a sunny or warm day.
  • Bring inside and strain tea. Serve with ice.

6 large mint sprigs, crushed
1/4 cup sugar
6 -7 tea bags

Steps:

  • Place 2 quarts water in a large clear pitcher.
  • Add 6 large mint sprigs, crushed.
  • Add 1/4 cup sugar.
  • Add 6-7 tea bags.
  • Cover pitcher and let stand in sun 2 to 4 hours.
  • Remove tea bags.
  • Serve over ice, garnished with additional mint sprigs, if desired.
  • Refrigerate tea up to 3 days, if it lasts that long.

4 tablespoons loose Ceylon orange pekoe tea (or 12 tea bags)
Ice, for serving
Mint sprigs or lemon slices, for garnish

Steps:

  • Pour water over tea, and steep in bright sunlight until rich brown and translucent but not cloudy, 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Strain. Serve over ice with garnish.
