1 pound mushrooms
½ cup butter
1 (1 ounce) envelope ranch salad dressing mix

Steps:

  • Put mushrooms, butter, and ranch salad dressing mix in a slow cooker.
  • Cook on Low for 3-4 hours.

Slow Cooker Cabbage & Mushrooms image

If you like cabbage, mushrooms, and even spicy mustard, this is an excellent and tasty side dish. The mustard flavor imparted is mild. I used Shiitake and White Crab mushrooms, but button mushrooms would absolutely work in this dish.

1 - head green cabbage, medium, shredded
1 1/2 cup(s) carrot, shredded
500 gram(s) fresh mushrooms, sliced in half, (1 lb)
3 tablespoon(s) butter
2 cup(s) chicken or pork stock
1/4 cup(s) spicy mustard
- salt and pepper, to taste

Steps:

  • Grease the inside of your slow cooker crock with the butter and just leave the excess in the bottom of the crock. Pour in the broth and add the mustard, whisk to combine.
  • Add the cabbage, mushrooms, and carrot to the slow cooker.
  • Mix everything together, season with a pinch of black pepper. Cover the slow cooker and set to Low setting and let cook for at least 6 hours, and up to 10 hours. Using the High setting is not recommended or the cabbage will be crunchy.
  • After I mixed and had the cooker on Low, I realized I had some White Crab mushrooms, so I chopped those and added them.
  • Mix those in, and now I have this cooking, can never have enough mushrooms.
  • When ready to serve, taste and season with salt and pepper as desired.
  • Use a slotted spoon to remove from the slow cooker and serve as a side dish any meal.

1 pound bacon
1 large head cabbage, chopped
1 large onion, chopped
1 (8 ounce) package sliced fresh mushrooms
salt and ground black pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Place bacon in a large skillet and cook over medium-high heat, turning occasionally, until evenly browned, about 10 minutes. Drain the bacon slices on paper towels; crumble when cooled. Drain all but 3 tablespoons of bacon drippings from skillet.
  • Cook and stir cabbage, onion, and mushrooms in the remaining bacon drippings until tender and lightly browned, about 20 minutes. Fold bacon into cabbage mixture. Season with salt and black pepper.

  • Cut the cabbage in half through the stem (core). Cut the core out by cutting a triangle shape out of both sides.
  • Lay the cabbage halves on its flat size. Cut the cabbage into 1-inch square pieces. Add to the slow cooker.
  • Cut the bacon before cooking into 1/2 inch pieces. Cook until browned in a skillet on the stove top, save the grease by pouring into a glass dish.
  • Add the bacon, bacon grease (I use 1/4 cup, use as little or as much as you prefer), apple cider vinegar, water, salt, and pepper. Stir. Add red pepper flake if you want it spicy.
