SHEET-PAN HAWAIIAN PINEAPPLE GRILLED CHEESE



Sheet-Pan Hawaiian Pineapple Grilled Cheese image

This sheet-pan grilled cheese will feed a crowd! Ham, cheese and pineapple are sandwiched between two layers of flaky crescent dough in this twist on an old favorite.

2 cans (8 oz each) Pillsbury™ refrigerated crescent dough sheet
1/2 lb deli sliced ham
2 cups grated mozzarella cheese (8 oz)
1/3 cup canned pineapple chunks, drained well
2 tablespoons butter, melted
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Gather your ingredients.
  • Heat oven to 375°F. Unroll 1 can dough; press into ungreased 13x9-inch cookie sheet.
  • Top dough with even layer of ham.
  • Sprinkle mozzarella cheese over ham.
  • Evenly place pineapple over top of cheese.
  • Unroll second sheet of crescent dough; place over top. Press around edges of dough to seal.
  • Brush melted butter over top of crescent dough; sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
  • Bake about 25 minutes or until golden brown. Cool 5 minutes before cutting into 12 pieces.

3 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened
8 slices bread
4 slices Swiss cheese
8 slices thinly sliced cooked ham
1 (8 ounce) can crushed pineapple, drained

Steps:

  • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Spread butter onto one side of each slice of bread. Place up to 4 of the slices of bread, butter side down in the skillet. Top each piece with one slice of cheese, two slices of ham, and about 2 tablespoons of the crushed pineapple. Place remaining slices of bread on top with the butter side up. When the bottom of the sandwich is golden brown, flip sandwiches, and cook until browned on the other side, about 1 minute. Repeat steps with remaining ingredients if all four sandwiches do not fit in your skillet.

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
  • Arrange the pineapple and tomato slices on the prepared baking sheet and bake for about 12 minutes, turning the pieces over halfway through, until the surfaces appear dry but not yet browned. Remove from the oven and set aside.
  • Spread the soft butter on one side of each bread slice, dividing it evenly. Place 2 slices of bread, buttered-side down, on a clean cutting board. Top each slice of bread with 2 slices of the fontina or Havarti cheese, ½ the ham, 3 or 4 slices of roasted tomato, 2 rings of roasted pineapple, and ½ the mozzarella on top of each. If needed you may cut the pineapple rings a bit to get them to fit nicely. Sprinkle with crushed red pepper flakes, if using. Top with the remaining slices of bread, buttered-side up.
