Scrambled French Toast image

I make a point of saving my leftover bread just so I can make this family-favorite recipe. Kids will have fun helping you prepare it, but will enjoy eating this sticky "scrambled" version of French toast even more!

SWEET SCRAMBLED FRENCH TOAST

Sweet Scrambled French Toast image

Cubes of French bread are dipped in egg batter and fried in butter. Then, sugar is added to the toast cubes in the saute pan and heated until dissolved, forming a sugary glaze. Recipe can be halved successfully. This is awesome!

MAPLE FRENCH TOAST SANDWICH

Maple French Toast Sandwich image

A sandwich with all the comfort. You can cook the bacon in a skillet instead of the oven, if desired. I also sprinkled the sandwich with cinnamon.

Provided by DitePoo

Categories     100+ Breakfast and Brunch Recipes     French Toast Recipes

Time 40m

Yield 2

Number Of Ingredients 8

8 slices maple-cured bacon
7 eggs
3 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon ground nutmeg
4 slices bread
5 tablespoons oil, or as needed
1 teaspoon maple syrup, or to taste

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil. Lay bacon strips in a single layer on prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until browned and crisp, 10 to 15 minutes. Drain bacon slices on paper towels.
  • Beat 3 eggs, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg together in a large, shallow bowl. Dip each slice of bread into egg mixture to saturate completely.
  • Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Working in batches, cook bread slices in hot oil, turning once, until browned on each side, about 5 minutes. Transfer toast to a plate.
  • Beat remaining eggs in a bowl. Cook and stir eggs in the same skillet over medium heat until eggs are scrambled and set, 3 to 4 minutes.
  • Place 1 slice of toast on a plate and top with 1/2 of the bacon, 1/2 of the scrambled eggs, and 1 slice of toast. Repeat with remaining toast, bacon, and eggs. Top each sandwich with maple syrup.

HOW TO MAKE THE BEST FRENCH TOAST - REAL SIMPLE
how-to-make-the-best-french-toast-real-simple image

From realsimple.com
Estimated Reading Time 4 mins
  • Start with the Best French Toast Bread. A dense-crumbed white Pullman bread is classic for French toast—but for an extra dose of richness, eggy challah or brioche works wonderfully, too.
  • Cut the Right Size Slice. Thinly sliced French toast loses something of its luxurious bite. So go thick, no thinner than half-an-inch. More bread per slice equals a bite with more personality.
  • Nail the Egg-to-Milk Ratio. Eggs and milk are the essential components of the custard base that gives French toast its tender richness—but get their ratio off and you'll wind up with undercooked slices that have an unpleasantly savory "scrambled eggs" flavor.
  • Season Your French Toast Batter. Milk and eggs are the only essentials required for the custard base—but it's how you season the mixture that will give your French toast a distinctive flavor.
  • Use a Non-Stick Pan. French toast, we know, arises from bread dipped in an egg mixture. Given how much bread absorbs egg, you probably want to cook French toast in a non-stick pan.
  • Upgrade Your Maple Syrup. When topping French toast just before eating, skip the corn syrup pretenders. Many aren't maple, but rather "breakfast" or "pancake" syrups.
  • Explore Fancy Toppings. Consider topping slices of French toast with a dollop of cool ricotta cheese and a spoonful of your favorite jam-say cherry or apricot.
  • Don't Skip the Butter! There are times to only reach for a cooking oil like grapeseed, but this isn't one of them. Butter gives French toast a deep richness and comforting quality, which are what we crave on mornings we sizzle this breakfast staple.

  • Cut your bread into 3/4-inch thick slices, to yield about 8 large or 12 medium slices of bread. If your bread is stale, move onto the next step. If your bread is fresh and soft, preheat the oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the sliced bread onto a large, rimmed baking sheet lined with an oven-safe cooling rack (if you have one) and bake for 8 minutes. If the bread still feels soft and squishy on the bottom sides, flip them and bake for an additional 4 to 8 minutes. We’re aiming for “stale bread” texture, not crispy toast. Set aside to cool.
  • Gently warm the milk in the microwave or in a saucepan on the stovetop, just until it’s warmer than room temperature (otherwise, the melted butter will clump on impact). Set aside.
  • Separate the yolks from three eggs, reserving the whites for another use if desired. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk the egg yolks until well blended. Add the warmed milk, melted butter, maple syrup, vanilla, cinnamon and salt, and whisk until blended. Pour the mixture into a 9 by 13-inch baking dish.
  • If you’re using an electric skillet, preheat it to 350 degrees Fahrenheit now. Place the sliced bread in the egg mixture, working with one side at a time. Once the bottom sides have absorbed egg mixture to a depth of about 1/4-inch, flip each slice and repeat for the other side. Transfer the soaked slices to your prepared baking sheet.
