1 c YELLOW MUSTARD
1/4 c PACKED BROWN SUGAR;
1/2 ts Salt
4 c Ketchup
1/4 c Worcestershire Sauce
2 tb Chili powder
2 c Cider vinegar
2 tb Butter or margarine
2 tb Black Pepper ground

Steps:

  • MAKES ABOUT 7 CUPS IN A SMALL BOWL, COMBINE CHILI POWDER, BLACK PEPPER, SUGAR, AND SALT. IN A LARGE SAUCEPAN, WHISK TOGETHER KETCHUP AND MUSTARD. STIR IN WORCESTERSHIRE SAUCE, VINEGAR AND SPICE MIXTURE AND COOK OVER MEDIUM HEAT 10 MINUTES. REDUCE HEAT TO LOW, ADD BUTTER, AND SIMMER UNTIL MELTED. TASTE. IF TOO TART, STIR IN BROWN SUGAR, AND SIMMER 5 MINUTES LONGER. SERVE WARM. REFRIGERATE UNUSED SAUCE UP TO SEVERAL WEEKS. USES: AS A FINISHING AND TABLES SAUCE FOR PORK AND CHICKEN. Smoky, sweet, zesty and savory, this homemade BBQ sauce has it all! Ready in 15 minutes with the perfect balance of flavors, it's just what your backyard barbecue needs!

1 1/2 cups ketchup ((I use and recommend one without high fructose corn syrup))
1/2 cup brown sugar
5 tablespoons molasses
3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons honey
2 teaspoons prepared yellow mustard
2 teaspoons liquid smoke ((optional but recommended))
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1 1/2 teaspoons onion powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper ((optional for heat))
water as needed for thinning

Steps:

  • Place all the ingredients in a medium saucepan and stir together. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer and cook for 15 minutes. If you prefer the sauce thinner, stir in a little water. If you prefer it thicker, let it simmer a little longer. Let the sauce cool completely before storing in the fridge.This BBQ sauce can be eaten right away but for best results let it chill overnight to allow time for the flavors to meld.Store it in the fridge in sealed non-reactive container where it will keep for 2-3 weeks.Makes about 2 1/2 cups.

2 cups cider vinegar
2 tablespoons butter or 2 tablespoons margarine
1/4-1/2 cup packed brown sugar (optional)

Steps:

  • vinegar and spice mixture in a large sauce pan.
  • Cook on medium heat 10 minuetes. reduce to low, add butter and simmer until melted.
  • Stir in brown sugar to tast.

I got tired of trying different "store bought" BBQ sauces. They're either too thin or have too much vinegar. This will thicken when cooled.

2 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
4 garlic cloves, finely minced
1 (16 ounce) bottle chili sauce (or ketchup)
1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons prepared mustard
2 tablespoons liquid smoke
2 tablespoons hot sauce (TRAPPEY'S Louisiana Hot Sauce)
1/4 cup light brown sugar
1/2 cup honey
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon celery seed
3 tablespoons horseradish (optional)

Steps:

  • In a med. saucepan, sauté the onion & garlic in 2 T. olive oil until lightly brown.
  • Add remaining ingredients & bring to a boil, over medium-high heat, stirring constantly. Set aside to cool.
  • -- use on ribs or chicken -- refrigerate any leftover sauce.
