POTATO AND SMOKED SAUSAGE HASH BISCUIT AND GRAVY.

Number Of Ingredients 17

3 Large potatoes, diced
1 Onion, diced
1 green bell pepper, diced
1 Lb Smoked sausage, sliced or diced
Oil for cooking potatoes
You can add bell peppers, mushrooms, jalapeños,
2 1/2 cups all purpose flour (spoon and leveled)
1 tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup butter, cold and grated or shortening
1 cup plus 2 tablespoons cold buttermilk
2 tsp honey
melted butter for brushing when out of the oven
2 tbsp butter, baking drippings or vegetable oil
2 tbsp flour
2-3 cups whole milk (add milk to your desired consistency)
salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Pour enough oil to cover the bottom of a large skillet. I use a seasoned iron skillet. Heat to hot but not smoking and add the potatoes and onions. Brown the potatoes turning to brown on both sides. Cover and cook until the potatoes have softened, but not done. You don't want them to be mushy because you are going to remove the lid and brown them more.
  • Remove the lid, turn your heat to high, a quickly browning the potatoes turning until you have a crispy potato. Add the smoked sausage and heat through.

700g / 1.4 lb baby potatoes (, halved)
3 carrots (, peeled and cut into 2"/5cm pieces)
2 red onions (, each cut into 8 wedges)
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 tbsp olive oil
2 tsp dried thyme
1 tsp dried oregano
Salt and pepper
8 - 10 sausages (500-700g / 1-1.4lb) ((Note 2))
Oil spray ((optional))
2 tbsp / 30g melted butter, unsalted
2 1/2 tbsp flour ((plain / all purpose))
2 cups / 500 ml beef broth (or chicken) ( (Note 3))
Fresh thyme (, for garnish (optional))

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 200C/390F (standard) or 180C/350F (fan / convection).
  • Place Vegetable ingredients in a large bowl. Toss well to coat.
  • Add sausages and toss briefly.
  • Transfer into roasting pan. Pan should be of a size so the vegetables are stacked about 2 deep - see photos and video. Rearrange sausages so they are on top.

1 (16 ounce) can refrigerated jumbo buttermilk biscuits
1 (9.6 ounce) package Jimmy Dean® Original Hearty Pork Sausage Crumbles
¼ cup flour
2 ½ cups milk
Salt and ground black pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Bake biscuits according to package directions.
  • Meanwhile, cook sausage in large skillet over medium heat 5-6 minutes or until thoroughly heated, stirring frequently. Stir in flour. Gradually add milk; cook until mixture comes to a boil and thickens, stirring constantly. Reduce heat to medium-low; simmer 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
  • Split biscuits in half. Place 2 halves on each of 8 plates; top with about 1/3 cup gravy.

i make this in the winter for my family. it freezes great so i make a bunch put it in the tins and freeze. this way when my family is hungry and i am not home to cook they can just take one out heat it up and poof toasty warm home cooking.

8 large red potatoes cubed thick
2 package(s) swanson chicken flavoring packs
2 1/2 cup(s) bisquick
1/3 cup(s) milk
1/2 cup(s) milk
1/4 cup(s) parmesan cheese
1 tablespoon(s) minced garlic
1 tablespoon(s) minced onion
1 tablespoon(s) parsley flakes
1 tablespoon(s) bacon bits
1/2 teaspoon(s) of each of the following, black pepper,italian seasoning,sage,basil, oregano,salt,magic spice for poultry,garlic powder, onion powder

Steps:

  • step one: in large saucepan cook up sausage and drain well but save dripping for gravy, cook potatoes till tender. drain water. pour over sausage and stir together.
  • Step Two: IN med saucepan bring to boil the drippings and 1/2 cup milk and 12 cup water.
  • Step three: mix flour and water together till smooth. adding seasonings starting with the black pepper.mix well to blend and knock out lumps. slowly add to water and drippings stirring constantly. reduce heat to low and continue stirring till thick. (too thick add just a little water) pour over sausage mixture.
  • now make biscuits according to the box. add the minced garlic,onion,cheese and bacon bits.
  • pour sausage/potato mix into baking dish or individual tins top by dropping biscuits by spoonfuls till covered. bake at 350 for one hour till biscuits are done and golden brown and gravy is bubbly
