SAUSAGE PIZZA BAKE

Sausage Pizza Bake image

Another recipe from my Clip and Save binder that's at least 30 years old. It's handwritten, so I must have copied it from a magazine.Anyway, it's good comfort food, kid friendly, that you can "tweak" to your family's likings! You can also use regular "original style" bulk pork sausage and throw in whatever your family likes on pizzas...sliced black olives, mushrooms, diced pepperoni...you get the idea!

Provided by Leslie in Texas

Categories     One Dish Meal

Time 1h5m

Yield 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 lb bulk Italian sausage
8 ounces small elbow macaroni
1/2 cup green bell pepper, chopped
1/2 cup onion, chopped
1 garlic clove, minced
2 (8 ounce) cans tomato sauce
1/4 teaspoon oregano
1/2 teaspoon basil
1/2 cup water
6 ounces mozzarella cheese, diced
1/4 cup parmesan cheese, grated

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, brown the sausage, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks. Remove from skillet and drain.( I like to put the sausage in a colander and run hot water over it to get all the grease off that I can ).
  • As sausage is cooking, bring a medium pot of water to a boil and cook the macaroni until al dente ( slightly firm to the tooth). You don't want to cook it too long or the final product will be mushy.
  • Add green pepper, onion, garlic, oregano and basil to the skillet and cook until onions are wilted but not browned. Add a small bit of olive oil or water, if necessary.
  • Stir in tomato sauce and the water; simmer over low heat for 5 minutes.
  • In a 2 1/2 quart casserole dish that has been coated with cooking spray, combine the macaroni, sausage, and tomato sauce mixture, mixing well.
  • Add half of the mozzarelle cheese and half ( 2 T. ) of the Parmesan cheese to the casserole dish and mix to distribute evenly.
  • Top casserole with remaining diced Mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  • Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 20 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until top is golden brown.

ITALIAN SAUSAGE PIZZA CASSEROLE

Italian Sausage Pizza Casserole image

This "upside down" pizza casserole is easy to make in a hurry. You can use any ingredients you like on pizza, for example add some black olives or pepperoni to the basic recipe or take out the mushrooms. Store bought spaghetti sauce works fine; your homemade will be even better! Add a salad and you have dinner.

Provided by mrsoul51

Categories     European

Time 50m

Yield 1 8x8 casserole, 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 lb bulk Italian sausage (mild or hot)
1 cup chopped onion
1 minced garlic clove
1/4 cup sliced mushrooms
1/4 cup chopped green pepper
2 cups spaghetti sauce
3/4 cup flour, divided
1 cup mixed shredded Italian cheese
1 egg
1/2 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 cup milk
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup shredded parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400°F.
  • Brown sausage, onions, garlic, green pepper, and mushrooms in a skillet over medium high heat for 6-8 minutes until sausage is cooked, stirring frequently. Drain and return sausage mixture to warm skillet.
  • Stir 3 tablespoons flour into the sausage and vegetables and then add spaghetti sauce, mixing well. Bring to a boil stirring often. Pour into lightly greased 6x10 or 8x8 baking dish and top with shredded Italian cheese. A blend of Italian cheeses works well but use whatever you like or have on hand.
  • Beat egg and stir in milk, oil, salt until well blended. Stir in the remaining flour and parmesan cheese and mix well. It should be pourable and not a dough like biscuits so adjust with a bit more flour or milk as needed. Pour over sausage/cheese in casserole covering the entire top evenly. Sprinkle a little more shredded parmesan cheese on top if desired.
  • Bake, uncovered, 25-30 minutes until golden brown. Let stand 10 minutes before cutting into squares for serving.

SAUSAGE PIZZA BAKE

Sausage Pizza Bake image

I came across this recipe in a casserole magazine and it became a staple at our house quickly. I have experimented with vegetables like zuchinis and different colored bell peppers, and it came out wonderfully, so don't be afraid to try something different in the place of these veggies if it sounds good.

Provided by Chef CPJ

Categories     Vegetable

Time 55m

Yield 8 slices, 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 13

8 ounces mild Italian sausage (ground, or you can cut the casing and take out the sausage)
10 ounces refrigerated pizza dough
1/2 cup tomato sauce
2 teaspoons dried basil
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
3 ounces fresh mushrooms, sliced
1/2 cup red onion, sliced
1/2 cup green bell pepper, sliced
1/2 cup tomatoes, sliced (I like to use Romas)
1/2 cup pitted black olives or 1/2 cup pitted green olives, sliced
8 -12 slices provolone cheese (the more the merrier!)
2 tablespoons grated parmesan-romano cheese mix

Steps:

  • Be sure to slice vegetables thinly and don't pack the dish too full of them, otherwise they won't cook through and through.
  • Preheat oven to 350.
  • Lightly coat 13x9 baking dish; set aside.
  • Cook sausage and drain.
  • Line dish with pizza dough, stretching to make crust go up sides of casserole dish (but take care not to make any holes).
  • Spoon sauce evenly over dough.
  • Sprinkle with spices.
  • Layer meat, veggies, and top with cheese.
  • Roll down crust sides.
  • Bake 32 - 35 minutes.
  • Sprinkle with parmesan and ramano blend once done baking.
