Says Sue Broyles of Cherokee, Texas, "This lightly sweet cheese ball is great to have on hand when we crave something creamy or if company drops by. It's even nice enough for the holidays."

Yield 3-1/2 cups (4-inch ball).

1 teaspoon ground mustard
1 teaspoon water
2 packages (8 ounces each) cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup chopped dates
1 cup chopped pecans
Crackers

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, dissolve the mustard in water; let stand for 10 minutes. In a bowl, beat cream cheese and mayonnaise until smooth. Add nutmeg and mustard mixture. Stir in cheese and dates. Chill for 15 minutes. Shape into a ball; roll in pecans. Chill. Serve with crackers.

This is one of my very favorite treats to make for the holidays and package up along with some fudge, pecan tarts, and pecan tasties, to give to the neighbors. This way my husband and I can have a few too.

14 tablespoons butter
1 cup pitted chopped dates
1 cup white sugar
2 cups crispy rice cereal (such as Rice Krispies®)
1 cup chopped pecans
2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar, or as needed

Steps:

  • Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat; cook and stir dates and white sugar in the melted butter until thick and golden brown, 10 to 15 minutes. Remove saucepan from heat and stir in crispy rice cereal and pecans. Let mixture cool until easily handled, 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Form mixture into small balls using your hands.
  • Pour confectioners' sugar into a resealable bag; add date-nut balls and lightly shake bag until balls are coated.

1 (10 ounce) package chopped dates
1 cup chopped pecans, toasted (divided)
2 teaspoons chopped fresh rosemary

Steps:

  • Combine the cream cheese, dates, rosemary and 1/2 cup of the pecans.
  • Cover, and chill for 30 minutes.
  • After chilling, shape into a ball and roll in the remaining pecans.
  • Serve with apple wedges, gingersnaps, or your favorite cracker.
