MEATLESS BAKED ZITI



Meatless Baked Ziti image

The vegetarian version of a classic baked ziti is loaded with herbs and three kinds of cheese for amazing taste without the meat!

Number Of Ingredients 11

16 oz Ronzoni® Ziti
1 jar (24 oz) pasta sauce
15 oz ricotta cheese
8 oz shredded mozzarella cheese
¼ cup parsley, chopped
1 each egg, lightly beaten
1 tsp fresh oregano leaves
½ tsp garlic powder
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp freshly ground black pepper
3 Tbsp freshly grated Parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 375º F
  • Prepare pasta according to package directions; drain
  • In large bowl, stir together hot cooked pasta, 1½ cups pasta sauce, ricotta cheese, mozzarella cheese, parsley, egg, oregano, garlic powder, salt and pepper
  • In 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking dish, spoon pasta mixture; top with remaining 1½ cups pasta sauce
  • Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese; cover with foil
  • Bake 30 minutes or until hot and bubbly

This is the classic back of the box recipe. I usually double the recipe and it still disappears! Make sure you use pasta with the ridges, this holds the sauce the best.

Number Of Ingredients 9

0.5 (8 ounce) box ziti pasta
3/4 lb ground beef (optional) or 3/4 lb sausage (optional)
3 cups marinara sauce (my favorite is Rao's)
1 3/4 cups ricotta cheese
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
grated parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F.
  • Cook pasta.
  • In large skillet brown meat (if using) and drain. Add marinara and simmer for 10 minutes.
  • In a small bowl stir together ricotta, 1 cup mozzarella and seasonings.
  • Toss the cooked pasta with the sauce and add half of it to a 9x13 baking dish. Then spread the cheese mixture over the pasta.
  • Add the remaining pasta and top with mozzarella and parmesan.
  • Cover loosely with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 5 minutes until hot and bubbly and cheese is golden brown.

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350ºF
  • Prepare pasta according to package directions; drain
  • Meanwhile, in large skillet over medium heat, brown meat until thoroughly cooked; drain
  • Stir in pasta sauce; simmer 10 minutes
  • In small bowl, stir together ricotta cheese, 1 cup mozzarella cheese and seasonings; set aside
  • Toss hot cooked pasta with meat sauce
  • In a 13x9x2-inch baking dish, spoon one-half pasta mixture; spread cheese mixture over top
  • Layer with remaining pasta; sprinkle with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese
  • Cover loosely with foil; bake 25 minutes
  • Remove foil; bake 5 minutes or until hot and bubbly
