MATRIMONIAL BARS

Steps:

• Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease one 13x9 inch baking pan.
• Combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, butter, salt and baking soda. Mix well. The mixture will be crumbly.
• In a saucepan over low heat, cook the chopped dates with the water and the white sugar until the pulp is soft and well mixed.
• Layer 1/2 of the oat mixture onto the bottom of the prepared pan. Top with the date mixture and then finish off with the remaining oat mixture. Press down slightly on layers to compact.
• Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 45 minutes or until top crust begins to brown.

ROMANCE BARS

Steps:

• Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). In a medium bowl, mix together 1 cup flour and 1 tablespoon white sugar. Stir in melted butter. Spread thinly over the bottom of a 9x13 inch pan.
• Bake for 20 minutes in the preheated oven, or until firm. In a medium bowl, stir together the brown sugar , 2 tablespoons flour, and baking powder. Mix in the eggs and 1 teaspoon vanilla until well blended. Stir in the walnuts, coconut and maraschino cherries. Pour the mixture over the prepared crust.
• Bake for 20 to 25 minutes in the preheated oven, until the top is light brown. Cool completely before frosting. To make the frosting, mix together 3 tablespoons butter and confectioners' sugar. Beat in water, milk, almond extract and vanilla extract until smooth. Spread over cooled bars. Let stand until firm, then slice into squares.

DREAM BARS

Steps:

• In a small bowl, combine flour and brown sugar; cut in butter until crumbly. Pat into a 13x9-in. baking pan. Bake at 350° for 10 minutes. , Meanwhile, in a bowl, beat eggs and brown sugar; stir in vanilla. Combine flour and salt; add to egg mixture. Fold in coconut and walnuts. Spread over baked crust. Return to oven and bake 20-25 minutes longer or until golden brown. Cool on a wire rack.
