RESTAURANT STYLE SALSA

Restaurant Style Salsa image

Recipe video above. Just like what you get at your favourite restaurant and those jars sold alongside corn chips at the grocery store.... but it's better, healthier and cheaper! The fresh flavour is so, so good. Make it chunkier or smoother, to your taste.

Categories     Dip

Time 5m

Number Of Ingredients 11

1/4 cup chopped onion ((white, brown or yellow))
1 tbsp jalapeño pepper (, seeds removed, roughly chopped (fresh best, canned ok))
400g / 14 oz canned crushed tomato (, best quality)
4 oz / 120g canned diced green chiles ((Note 1))
1/4 cup (packed) cilantro/coriander (, roughly chopped)
1/2 tbsp+ lime juice
1 clove garlic (, minced)
1/2 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/4 teaspoon ground cumin

Steps:

  • Place onion and jalapeno in the food processor first, then add remaining ingredients (start with 1/2 tbsp lime juice).
  • Blitz to desired consistency - I like mine pretty smooth because you get better flavour out of the onion etc.
  • Taste test with corn chip for salt and lime. Adjust if necessary.
  • Refrigerate 1 hour before serving with corn chips, or other dippers (see in post for suggestions).

RESTAURANT-STYLE SALSA

Food Network's Ree Drummond shares her recipe for homemade restaurant-style salsa that the whole family will love!

Provided by Ree Drummond : Food Network

Categories     condiment

Time 1h15m

Yield 12 servings

Number Of Ingredients 10

Two 10-ounce cans diced tomatoes and green chiles, such as Rotel
One 28-ounce can whole tomatoes with juice
1/2 cup fresh cilantro leaves (or more to taste!)
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 clove garlic, minced
1 whole jalapeno, quartered and sliced thin, with seeds and membrane
1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon sugar
1/2 whole lime, juiced

Steps:

  • Combine the diced tomatoes, whole tomatoes, cilantro, onions, garlic, jalapeno, cumin, salt, sugar and lime juice in a blender or food processor. (This is a very large batch. I recommend using a 12-cup food processor, or you can process the ingredients in batches and then mix everything together in a large mixing bowl.)
  • Pulse until you get the salsa to the consistency you'd like. I do about 10 to 15 pulses. Test seasonings with a tortilla chip and adjust as needed.
  • Refrigerate the salsa for at least an hour before serving.

RESTAURANT STYLE MEXICAN SALSA

I found this on another web site, its more like the dipping sauce they give you with the chips while you are waiting on your food to arrive. It has a good flavor and you can make it as hot as you want. It is better after it has been in the fridge for a day. Enjoy!!

Categories     Sauces

Time 3m

Yield 4 cups

Number Of Ingredients 5

32 ounces whole stewed tomatoes (I use just whole tomatoes with basil)
1 (4 ounce) can sliced jalapenos, undrained
1/2 tablespoon salt
1 1/2 tablespoons garlic granules
1 lb warm tortilla chips, seasoned with salt

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients.
  • Put in a blender and precess briefly. It has only a slight texture.
  • Refrigerate.

RESTAURANT STYLE SALSA

Restaurant Style Salsa image

You sit down at a Mexican restaurant and they bring you a bowl of chips and salsa. You have one chip, dip it, but can't stop there. You continue until all the chips and salsa are gone and ask for more. This is that salsa. It is great on any dish from tacos to scrambled eggs. Adjust the amount of jalapeno peppers and salt to suite your own palate. With the two Jalapenos, this version is spicy.

Time 15m

Yield 3-4 cups

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes
4 unpeeled garlic cloves
2 jalapeno peppers
1 teaspoon cumin powder
1/2 bunch cilantro
1/2 white onion
1 lime, juice of
2 teaspoons salt

Steps:

  • Pan roast with, no oil, the unpeeled garlic cloves and jalapeno peppers on medium-high until skins are darkened on all sides. About 5 minutes for the jalapenos and 8-10 minutes for the garlic.
  • Peel garlic and add to food processor with jalapeno and onion. Process until ingredients are finely minced. (de-seeding the jalapenos or only using one will result in a medium heat salsa).
  • Add all remaining ingredients (tomatoes, cumin, cilantro, lime juice, and salt) and process until smooth.
  • Cool for one hour in refrigerator prior to serving.

  • Add all of the ingredients into a food processor and process until you reach your desired consistency. My favorite restaurant salsas tend to be less chunky so I pulse a few times to break things up, then process for 10-15 seconds until there aren't any large chunks but stopping before turning everything into a soup.
  • Taste the salsa and adjust as necessary. You may prefer more lime juice or a bit more salt (different brands of tomatoes have different salt content so depending on which brand you are using, you might even need to add another 1/2 teaspoon of salt, which might seem like a lot - that's why it's important to taste and adjust and I always start on the lower end and work my way up).
  • If you want more heat, add in some of the seeds from your jalapenos (I always start with one jalapeno and then add in the second jalapeno, then some of the seeds if needed to get the heat where I like it since most of the spiciness in the jalapenos is in the seeds themselves).
  • Chill in the fridge for at least 1 hour before serving so the flavors have a chance to really combine. Serve with fresh tortilla chips! Can be stored in the fridge for up to 1 week.
