For your next 4th of July party, make these festive sweet treats! They're easy to make and the kids (and adults!) will love them.

Number Of Ingredients 4

Ingredients

6 tbsp butter
4 1/2 cup marshmallows
3 3/4 cup Rice Krispies
2-3 drops red, white, and blue food coloring

Steps:

Melt 2 tbsp of butter over medium-high heat, then add in the 1 1/2 cup of marshmallows.
Once the marshmallows melt, add in a couple drops of red food coloring, then mix, until the mixture is completely red.
Sprinkle in 1 1/4 cup of Rice Krispies, and fold in until everything is well incorporated.
Butter a pan, and add the red layer. Be sure to spread it throughout, and pack it down to prevent any air pockets.
Repeat the above steps, but don't add any food coloring - the white layer does not need any food coloring.
Add the white layer on top of the red layer. Be sure to spread it throughout, and pack it down to prevent any air pockets.
Repeat the above steps, adding a few drops of blue food coloring to make the blue Rice Krispies layer.
Layer the blue on top of the white. Be sure to spread it throughout, and pack it down to prevent any air pockets.
Let it cool down completely before cutting, and enjoy!

CLASSIC CRISPY RICE TREATS

Classic Crispy Rice Treats image

Gooey marshmallows and crispy rice cereal come together in this recipe for the all-original favorite. We added a splash of vanilla extract and pinch of salt to give these sweet treats a palatable punch. Cut into squares, store between a few pieces of wax paper (to prevent any sticking) and enjoy for up to three days.

Nonstick cooking spray
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
One 10-ounce bag mini marshmallows
6 cups crispy rice cereal, such as Rice Krispies
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Pinch kosher salt
Decorative toppings, optional (see Cook's Note)

Steps:

Line a 9-by-13-inch baking dish with aluminum foil, leaving a 2-inch overhang on each of the longer sides. Spray the foil lightly with cooking spray.
Melt the butter in a large pot over medium heat. Add the marshmallows and cook, stirring occasionally, until melted and smooth, about 5 minutes. Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla and salt.
Working quickly, add the rice cereal to the pot and stir with a rubber spatula until evenly coated. Transfer to the prepared baking dish and press into an even, compact layer. (Spray your hands with a little cooking spray to keep them from sticking when pressing the cereal mixture into the pan). Decorate with toppings if using (see Cook's Note).
Let sit at room temperature until firm, about 30 minutes. Cut into 24 squares. Store the cereal treats at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

In a large dutch oven pot, melt the butter on medium heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted, then remove from heat, add the vanilla and stir.
Once the marshmallows are melted, add the cereal and mix carefully using a rubber spatula until combined.
Pour the cereal mixture into the prepared 9 by 13" baking dish and spread evenly into the prepared baking dish using the back of a spoon.

Place 2 Tablespoons butter and 4 cups of marshmallows in 3 separate microwavable bowls. Cook the first bowl for 1 minute and then stir. Cook an additional 15 seconds if needed and then stir in the blue food coloring.
Once the mixture is smooth, stir in 3 cups of rice krispies until combined. Then press into the bottom of the dish. You can either butter your hands or use a piece of wax paper to push down the layers. Repeat with the 2nd layer and red food coloring. Repeat for the top layer with no food coloring.
Top immediately with sprinkles and M&M’s if desired. Cover with plastic wrap until ready to serve. Butter your knife (I find a plastic knife works best) and then cut into squares. Enjoy!
