1/2 pound sliced fresh mushrooms
1 small onion, thinly sliced
1 tablespoon sesame oil
3/4 pound fresh or frozen sugar snap peas
1/2 cup chicken broth
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, saute mushrooms and onion in oil until crisp-tender. Add the remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil; cover and simmer for 2-4 minutes or until peas are crisp-tender. Serve with a slotted spoon.

Steps:

  • Cook pea pods in boiling salted water until crisp-tender, about 3 minutes.
  • Melt margarine in saucepan; cook and stir pineapple until hot.
  • Add pea pods; toss and heat.

This is another of Diana Liu's recipes from my 1965 cookbook that I got from my Dad. He was taking classes at the time to master the art of cooking gourmet Chinese food.

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut against the grain into 1/8-inch thin slices
1 teaspoon cornstarch
1 egg white
1 tablespoon sherry wine
2 teaspoons salt
1/2 lb sugar pea pods (wash well, remove ends and soak in cold water 30 minutes)
1/2 teaspoon msg
1/4 cup water
6 tablespoons oil

Steps:

  • Marinate chicken slices in egg white, cornstarch, sherry and 1 teaspoons salt for 1 hour in refrigerator. Heat 2 Tblsp. oil in a pan until hot. Stir-fry pea pods and 1 teaspoons salt for 2 minutes; remove from pan; set aside. Heat 4 Tblsp. oil until hot. Stir-fry chicken slices 3 minutes or until chicken turns white. Add cooked pea pods, msg and water. Cook 2 more minutes. Serve hot. Nice with steamed rice.

  • In 10-inch skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat.
  • Add pea pods and sesame seed; cook about 2 minutes, stirring frequently, until pea pods are crisp-tender.
  • Stir in bell pepper. Cook about 2 minutes, stirring frequently, until bell pepper is crisp-tender.

Garnered from my friends on the rice cooker site. It looks so good and EASY! There's plenty of leaway to experiment with your preferences. Instead of the boullion I used beef broth.

1 1/2 teaspoons instant chicken bouillon granules
1/3 cup boiling water
1 tablespoon soy sauce
2 tablespoons cold water, mixed with
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 (8 ounce) can bamboo shoots
1 (8 ounce) can water chestnuts
1 (6 ounce) can whole mushrooms or 8 ounces fresh mushrooms
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 large minced garlic clove
12 ounces pea pods
cashew nuts (optional)

Steps:

  • Dissolve bouillon granules in boiling water, add soy sauce and cornstarch mixture, set aside.
  • Drain bamboo shoots, water chestnuts and mushrooms.
  • Preheat wok, on high and add oil.
  • Stir fry garlic in hot oil for 30 seconds, being careful not to burn as this will produce a bitter flavor in the finished dish.
  • Add bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, mushrooms and pea pods to wok and stir-fry for 2 minutes.
  • Stir in bouillon mixture and continue cooking until thickened and bubbly.
  • Remove to serving platter and garnish with cashew nuts if desired.

1 can (20 ounces) pineapple chunks in juice, drained and juice reserved
1 1/2 cups chicken broth
2/3 cup uncooked regular long-grain rice
2 teaspoons curry powder
1/8 teaspoon ground red pepper (cayenne)
1 package (6 ounces) frozen snow (Chinese) pea pods, thawed
1/2 pound fully cooked ham, cut into 1/2-inch pieces

Steps:

  • Mix reserved pineapple juice, the broth, rice, curry powder and red pepper in 10-inch skillet. Heat to boiling, stirring once or twice; reduce heat. Cover and simmer 20 minutes (do not lift cover or stir); remove from heat. Fluff rice lightly with fork. Cover and let steam 5 minutes.
  • Cut each pea pod crosswise in half. Stir pea pods, pineapple and ham into rice mixture. Cook over medium heat about 2 minutes, stirring once or twice, until hot.

Steps:

  • Mix sliced pork with soy sauce, sherry, sesame oil and corn starch.
  • Heat 4 Tblsp. oil in frying pan until hot.
  • Stir-fry meat mixture for 4 minutes; remove from pan; set aside.
  • Heat 2 more Tblsp. oil in frying pan until hot.
  • Stir-fry pea pods for 2 minutes.
  • Add salt and meat mixture; stir-fry 1 minute more.
  • Serve hot.

1 (10 1/2 ounce) can beef consomme' soup
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1 bunch green onion (about 8)
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 (8 ounce) can sliced water chestnuts, drained
1 (8 ounce) can bamboo shoots, drained
1 (8 -10 ounce) can bean sprouts, drained
7 ounces frozen Chinese pea pods, partially thawed

Steps:

  • Combine steak in crock pot with the consommé, soy sauce, ginger, and onion.
  • Cover and cook on low for 5-7 hours. Turn control to high.
  • Stir in cornstarch that has been dissolved in 2 tablespoons of cold water.
  • Cook on high for 15 minutes or until thickened.
  • During last five minutes of cooking, add water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, bean sprouts and pea pods.
  • Serve over hot rice.
