PIRATE STEW
This beef stew for the slow cooker has a taste of the Caribbean (brown sugar and rum) that your whole family will love. This recipe is my own creation and uses primarily root vegetables from the ship's hold. Let this cook while you and the crew take on another adventure.

Steps:
- Combine the beef, flour, salt, and pepper in a resealable plastic bag; shake to evenly coat the beef.
- Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Brown the beef in the olive oil. Transfer the meat into the bottom of a slow cooker and return the skillet to the heat. Add the sweet potato, potato, celery, turnip, and parsnip. Pour the vinegar into the hot skillet to deglaze the pan, scraping loose the particles from the bottom with a spatula; empty into the slow cooker. Return the skillet to the heat and melt the butter. Cook and stir the onion in the melted butter until softened; scrape into the slow cooker.
- Combine the pineapple juice, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, garlic, beef bullion, and rum in a small saucepan; cook until the bouillon cube dissolves. Pour into the slow cooker.
- Turn the slow cooker on to High; cook for 1 hour. Switch heat to Low and cook an additional 6 hours.

PIRATE PASTA ARRRGH!
Grandpa loved pasta and pirates! He dreamed of sailing the cerulean seas of Pirate's Paradise -- the Caribbean. Sea shell shaped pasta transported us to this tropical place Grandpa passionately adored, creating a multitude of mealtime memories. I savored these shells, enthralled by his magical tales of tempestuous times past. He spoke like a true pirate! ARRRGH!

- Fill each shell with 1 rounded tablespoon cheese mixture; arrange over sauce. Pour remaining sauce over shells. Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese. If channeling your inner pirate, make X's over the top using crisscrossed zucchini strips.
- Bake, covered, 25 minutes. Bake, uncovered, 5-10 minutes longer or until heated through and cheese is melted. If desired, warm additional sauce and serve with shells. Enjoy! Arrrgh!

WIENER AND PASTA POT
This is a recipe I was missing from home. Lennie very kindly came up with it for me. It comes from the Company's Coming Pasta book. I have included my own variations on it. The pasta actually cooks in the sauce. I love this stuff and so did my kids!

Steps:
- In a large dutch oven, combine everything; cover; cook slowly until shells are tender but firm. This should take 15 to 17 minutes.
- My own variation: I always browned my sliced weiners in the pot first before I added the remaining ingredients. I also added a bit of garlic powder, and topped it with cheese at the end.

PIRATE SOUP (WIENERS AND SPAGHETTI)
This is a simple recipe sure to please kids and grown-ups. My dad made this often in our household of 6 kids while I was growing up. He got this from my grandma. Takes simple ingredients and is a fun unforgettable dinner. Now that we are all grown up ourselves, the tradition continues.
