CINNAMON DOUGH ORNAMENTS

Cinnamon Dough Ornaments image

This is a simple recipe for homemade ornaments that are fun to make with your children and grandchildren. The smell of cinnamon will fill your home though out the season!

Provided by Heather Zarazinski @KitchenGoddess73

Categories     Other Non-Edibles

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 1/2 cup(s) cinnamon, ground
1 cup(s) applesauce
1/4 cup(s) white school glue (like elmer's)
- ribbon or yarn

Steps:

  • Mix cinnamon, apple sauce and glue together in a bowl. The dough should be as thick as cookie dough. Add a bit of water if the dough is too stiff.
  • Remove from bowl and knead. Put it back in the bowl and cover with plastic wrap, and let sit for at least half an hour.
  • Remove the dough and knead again to make sure it's smooth. Flatten/roll dough between sheets of waxed paper until it's between 1/4 & 1/8 inch thick. Cut out in desired shapes, use a straw to punch a hole for the ribbon to hang.
  • Gently place the shapes on a clean sheet of wax paper. They will take 3-5 days to dry and you will need to turn them a couple of times a day for them to dry evenly and flat. When dry, thread a piece of ribbon or yarn through the hole to hang.
  • Note: Ornaments may shrink during the drying process. You can decorate as you like with acrylic or fabric paints

  • Mix the applesauce, cinnamon, and glue in a mixing bowl. You'll probably need to stir with your hands, as a spoon won't get the job gone. Add more applesauce or cinnamon if needed - you want the dough to be a touch dry, but it still needs to hold together when you roll it out. When the dough can be formed into a ball, you are done mixing. Wash your hands.
  • Place 1/3 of the dough between two sheets of plastic wrap, and use the rolling pin to roll the dough to 1/4" - 1/3" thick.
  • Remove the top layer of plastic wrap and use cookie cutters to cut out ornaments. Repeat with the remaining dough.
